I recently had to explain to a 28 year old native NYer that she has been caring for a Holocaust survivor for years. She didn't know. She told me her schooling "glossed over" the Holocaust... Centenarian Jew from Hungary... She didn't know what that meant.

Alice Duer Miller's 1915 introduction of her book "Are Women People? a book of rhymes for suffrage times".
[Text on a page]
INTRODUCTION
Father, what is the legislature?
A representative body elected by the people of the state.
Are women people?
No, my son, criminals, lunatics and women are not people.
Do legislators legislate for nothing?
Oh, no; they are paid a salary.
By whom?
By the people.
Are women people?
Of course, my son, just as much as men are.

An American classic: 1928 Yiddish advertisement for kosher l'Pesach Maxwell House Coffee. This was four years before Maxwell perfected their Passover marketing with the now ubiquitous Maxwell House Haggadah.

Today is National Read Across America Day! Established by the National Education Association in 1998, in order to get kids excited about reading, the day also marks the birthday of phenomenal wordsmith Dr. Seuss. Which Seussian titles have you read and enjoyed? 💙📚 www.librarything.com/author/seussdr

1889 was clearly the time to buy property in Bensonhurst by the Sea, New Utrecht.
[Newspaper clipping] headline reads: "Real Estate for Sale" [category:] for sale-country. Different from all other places. BENSONHURST-BY-THE-SEA is the select new village on New York Bay...

In 1945, a Jewish soldier describes himself as a Glitz-vak...
[Handwritten portion of a letter] I'm not a 100% "Litvak" because my mother is a "Gelitziana", and in order not to show any partiality to either one if them, I made myself part of new group, namely, the Glitz-vaks" - 1/2 and 1/2.

We can't say for sure, because it wasn't under our watch, but it loooks like he was a deserting alien seaman.

People often joke that Chayei Sarah is about me. To this, I reply, 'Unfortunately, I was a week late, so I had to become a genealogist.'
