Mahalo to the students, faculty, and staff at UH Maui College for inviting me to talk story over pizza. 🍕 I’m always grateful for the chance to be with our students, hear what they’re thinking, and talk about the challenges shaping their lives and our communities.

Holding ICE accountable means knowing where taxpayer dollars are going and making sure the rule of law applies. At Hawaiʻi’s first Immigration and Inclusion Conference, I shared what I’ve seen at FDC Honolulu and why Congress must keep pushing for answers, oversight, and humane treatment.

Chris Leonard and the team at KWXX know how important it is to keep people informed when the power is out, cell service is down, and families are looking for reliable information.

Governor Ariyoshi made history as our nation’s first Asian American governor, but I’ll remember him most for the humility, steady leadership & deep love for Hawaiʻi that defined his service. My deepest aloha to Jean & the entire Ariyoshi ʻohana. Mahalo for a lifetime of service to Hawaiʻi, Governor.

A lot of talk about growing markets for American agriculture. A whole lot of silence when I asked a simple question: who replaces the billions cut from SNAP and other programs that buy food from local farmers and ranchers?

When Hurricane Lowell hit, one of the only voices Kauaʻi could still hear was KKCR, their community radio station.

The destruction Hurricane Lala left behind on farms across Kaʻū is extensive. From ranch lands to coffee farms, cracks in the earth, flooding, downed trees, broken water lines and damaged roads will take significant resources.

It was so good to sit down with the Hawaiʻi Black Chamber of Commerce during Black Business Month for an honest conversation about what it takes to grow a business here. Mahalo for welcoming me and for continuing to support Hawaiʻi’s Black business community.

Mahalo to the school staff, volunteers, and community partners in Kaʻū who are stepping up to make sure families have food, supplies, and support when they need it most. Even while facing challenges of their own, they’re still showing up for their neighbors. That is aloha in action.

ʻOhana across Hawaiʻi should prepare now as Tropical Storm Lala approaches the islands. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Hawaiʻi Island, but heavy rain, strong winds, flooding, mudslides and dangerous surf could affect communities throughout the state.

I joined Chris Cuomo to discuss how partisanship and extremism on both sides of the aisle are blocking progress on critical issues like immigration reform, even though most Americans agree on the basics: a fair system, a legal path to citizenship, stronger border security, and safer communities.

My visit to Molokaʻi made one thing clear: there’s more work to do. Families are still dealing with mud and sediment left behind by the Kona Low storms, and ranchers deserve answers on bovine tuberculosis as they fight for the survival of their industry & livelihoods.

The affordability crisis hits rural and island communities differently. On Lānaʻi and across Hawaiʻi, families are up against limited options, long distances, fragile supply chains, and everyday basics that keep getting more expensive.

I asked USDA a straightforward question: Of the $11 billion in farm assistance, how much reached small family farms? After Republicans cut $187B from SNAP and said this would help farmers, the public deserves transparency. Are these programs and policies actually helping our small producers, or not?
