Memories of a long time ago, when hardcore TOK enjoyers felt compelled to debate, control, gatekeep, oppose, deny or spread rumours about the creator for simply using the artlang she made and shared to all. Now with Chapter 19, the playful community (incl. the S. Lang Corps!) is free and friendly. 💜

Reddit post of hauntlunar saying:

This is not true anymore but for a long time, back in the day, the toki pona community had a lot of weird hostile cranks. Whatsisname the guy who had the most popular toki pona lessons in the 2000s, threw some weird islamophobic stuff into the lessons as if in order to spite jan Sonja. When lipu pu was published some of the old guard on the forums were nasty and spiteful about it because they had their own idea of what toki pona should be or become and pu wasn't it. Any time a beginner posted in the toki pona facebook group, jan Kipo would swoop in and nitpick it to death for not conforming to the language, and then would nitpick the language itself to death for not being logical enough. The toki pona community was full of people who were anything but pona to each other and to everybody else.

Sonja seems to have wrested the community back from the cranky weirdos and is made it far more of a kulupu pona than it was when I first became aware of it many years ago.

So this complaint is obsolete but was once IMHO valid.

Public complaints about lipu pu from one of the more emotional or opinionated Toki Pona enjoyers who was already invited in the private workplace for the exclusive team that did the full review of the very book (see credits in the first pages) and had already sent other team members all their change requests, which were implemented in the manuscript.
