Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 2hHad one of those sandwiches while walking through the canal. It’s creamier, eggier, and I can definitely taste that hint of Japanese mayo in it. 000
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 3hThe obligatory and unceremonious konbini run after leaving the port, where I had to check out my stuff in bad Japanese 💀 (The FamiChiki was indeed juicy!) 010
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 5hWe ran into another Canadian couple while de-boarding and dealing with immigration! 040
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 6h(Snoop Dog voice) “That right there? That’s the Japan you’ve been dreaming about.” 140
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 16hWe brought some Korean fried chicken on board and are enjoying them next to a Danish couple. 000
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 17hMade it to the port of Busan earlier this evening where the port officials watched me chug my McDonald’s drink because they ban disposable drink cups, the security screeners addressed me in Japanese while dealing with my stuff (…plus my five different drinks) and I left my smol pen at customs. 121
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 29/09/2026Same. They also have lots of toys overall, from non-anime figures to Nerf guns. 010
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 29/09/2026We went to the flagship branch, but Lee Jaemo was solid for Korean-style pizza despite the check-in process making us say “JFC”. 000
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 29/09/2026During our visit to Gamcheon Village, we dropped by DUF Coffee, a duck cafe ran by a North Korean defector. 230
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 29/09/2026We arrived in Busan two hours ago, where we are bent on trying this “I love Jesus” pizza place (Lee Jaemo) near the central train station for dinner. The subway attendant, who saw us standing around, vouched for it after learning that we were looking for something to do. 100
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 29/09/2026My favourite has to be those croissants; they're so buttery and better than any croissant I've had back in Vancouver. 100
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 29/09/2026Some of the treats from Dunkin’ and Paris Croissant (Paris Baguette’s upscale cousin) for today’s train ride to Busan. 130
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 28/09/2026As a half (Chinese) Filipina, start with the delicious food! (I‘m sending you a list of stuff I recommend) 020
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 28/09/2026It may not be a lot, but here was my Costco haul. 7790 won ($8.16) gets you a nice 400g bag of those viral HBAF honey butter almonds. Meanwhile, I’ve seen 200g bags at the Myeongdong HBAF location for ~9000 won 💀 000
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 28/09/2026Unfortunately, the Costco folks doesn’t seem to speak much English (which is understandable because very few tourists would go to a Korean Costco). We had to Papago our food court order, but at least “annyeonghaseyo” and “gamsahamnida” goes a long way in front of the cashier and the receipt checker. 100
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 28/09/2026Our food court spread made out of Korean Costco exclusives. I particularly like the pork bake, which reminds me of a pork Philly cheesesteak and is thankfully not a salt bomb unlike the chicken bake. I also appreciate that the bulgogi pizza isn’t as greasy compared to the Canadian pizza. 110
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 28/09/2026I’m aware that both the Japanese and Canadian (Vancouver) Costcos have sushi. But never did I expect to see sushi at a Korean Costco 110
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 28/09/2026We went to Costco earlier this afternoon to compare/contrast all the products and food court items. (Yes, a foreign Costco card works at the Korean Costcos; it’ll show up as “international” when you scan your card at the front) 110

Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 27/09/2026On the way to the Namsan cable car (…before noping from the corresponding lines), we found a statue of @miketoole.com’s beloved bootleg Mazinger Z from South Korea. 1144
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 27/09/2026We dropped by Myeongdong Kyoja for their juicy mandu and kalgaksu (knife cut noodles). The broth is rich, and we met a Seattlite seated next to us who knows what Sakura-Con is (…and is also a Trader Joe’s fan). 100
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 27/09/2026Wearing a hanbok is one of those “enjoy but only once” things (ended up changing out of mine two hours in and spent the rest of my time at Gyeongbokgung in my regular clothes), but I will happily recommend Daehan to anyone interested in renting a hanbok. 000
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 27/09/2026Taken yesterday, but I rented a hanbok from Daehan Hanbok and wore it at Gyeongbokgung Palace. I also met the infamous Daehan Hanbok guy behind the shop’s silly reels and TikToks, who also picked out a blouse for me to go with the skirt that I chose. 280
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 26/09/2026We returned back to Tim Hortons earlier this evening for the Vancouver Matcha Cloud latte (yeah, _that_ Singaporean Tim Hortons drink), and it is indeed the epitome of Vancouver thanks to our matcha scene. 030
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 26/09/2026Update: We realized that the Korean Tim Hortons “glasses” were also rigid plastic cups like their McDonald’s counterparts 000
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 26/09/2026My partner and I lost our minds when we got those glasses at Tim Hortons, and to some extent washable/returnable plastic cups at McDonald’s. 100
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 26/09/2026Our guide is amazing. I originally showed up to see the garden which requires a timed entry ticket. But I stayed for her stories about tourists being stupid, specifically the guy who thought it was a good idea to use the prosperity gate as his chin-up bar. 010

Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 26/09/2026Food and service is second to none compared to Canada. I particularly like the double double and the Eeyore‘s Aurora lychee refresher. 110
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 26/09/2026While waiting for our Changdeokgung Palace Secret Garden timed entry, we dropped by Tim Hortons for their country-exclusive novelties (including their Winnie the Pooh collab). 130
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 25/09/2026Partner and I tried Korean McDonalds while in Myeongdong - that being the bulgogi burger (delightsome), the mozza sticks, the orange Fanta, and the Jeju Green Mandarin McFizz (not pictured but it tastes like a continental European orange Fanta). Will have to try the strawberry Oreo McFlurry! 010
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 25/09/2026We’re still in the smart entry service registration that would let us leave the airport, but we made it to Korea! 040
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 24/09/20262000's Disney Channel songs and last-minute Korea-Japan packing. 010
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 21/09/2026It just happens that Cineplex has an early screening of The Forgotten Island, so I snapped up a ticket this morning as it’ll be out when I’m in Korea (and don’t want to deal with the spoilers during the rest of my trip). 020
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 21/09/2026I also caught its early release earlier this afternoon. The Filipino references (especially the IYKYKs) are second-to-none, and I like the Mananangal’s character specifically how she has some sympathetic/redeeming traits. 001

Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 20/09/2026Whoops, meant to say (tissue) cash box. Not as good as a fanny pack or a proper cash box, but it should do when you got 5 kids working in shifts at a lemonade stand. (I still wish them more than the best!) 000
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 20/09/2026Based on how their (tissue) was full loonies and $5 bills, I'm glad that they made what I can assume to be a profit on the stand. 120
Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 20/09/2026Saw some kids running a lemonade (...and popsicle) stand outside of my place, where I picked up a drink and two popsicles from them. I'm very impressed that they make the lemonade to order, instead of premade stuff. It's also not too sweet! 121

Mich Chan @togarashimayo.com · 14/09/2026After two disappointing stroopwafel (McDonald’s World Menu Heist) McFlurries where one only had the caramel sauce and the other only had the cinnamon cookie mix-in, I finally had a proper stroopwafel McFlurry with both toppings yesterday. It’s so good and I’ll miss it dearly once it sells out! 010
