"The Bible" as if there were only one, and only one version of it, without specifying further arguably leaves things open.

Interesting. Glad there will be a new one this year though I must confess to preferring that they would make use of ghost stories originally published for Christmas and/or having Christmas content to ghost stories with no historical Christmas ties.

Give me a Mutoscope for my living room with some 21st century cat video put onto those old flip cards and I'd be pretty happy.

Yes. And that was just in the stuff I *was* able to access via FOIL and FOIA (it helped that I was familiar with both processes). A lot was clearly withheld, and I can only imagine....

NRM is so great! Have been multiple times because of the changing and traveling exhibitions!

Has to be a feature film, I guess? Because some Melies shorts and cat videos I'm sure I've seen many, many times.

It was all scary enough at the time, scarier later when I learned via FOIL and FOIA what else had been going on unbeknownst to me at the time, and the whole experience was quite scarring.

Uni risk assessment team designated as my sole uni contact the man who'd threatened me in writing to forget the professor I'd reported & who forbade me to communicate w/anyone on campus abt the professor via any means, after I'd reported he'd made those threats & wanted no more contact from him.

Police did not try to determine my whereabouts at the time, & did not even go to the classroom, evidently finding his report so obviously false it required no action. But neither did they warn me he'd falsely reported me essentially as an active shooter. I only learned months later via the FOIL.

Xmas ghosts are stirring @toffph.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

My prof, after he'd been tipped off I'd reported him, waited until about fifteen minutes before class and told police he feared for his & the entire class' safety and that I intended to become a martyr. I think he wanted to get me shot? Meanwhile I was at home, too afraid to go to class b/c of him.

The chair mandated my dept advisor and independent study advisor in whom I'd been confiding to stop replying to me. I found that isolating at the time, which I'm sure was the chair's intention, and as a doctorate in psych I'm sure she knew the effect their silence would have.

Xmas ghosts are stirring @toffph.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Among the shockers from the FOIA to the USDoE: a uni risk assessment team had gone digging for dirt on me (none!) at prior unis I'd attended - while never investigating what I'd reported. My chair wrote people in the dept that I'd violated cease & desist orders when I'd never been sent even one.

Xmas ghosts are stirring @toffph.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

Please do! Aside from keeping a fairly complete paper trail myself, and the phone recordings, I also got some documents via NYS FOIL and US FOIA. Some quite eye-opening.

Share with you or whomever it might help in some way, or if it might help change parts of the system in some way.

A Christmas photo - granted, a lot of the far right think guns were somehow the reason for the season.

Uni went hard on threats to me in writing. My reporting of prof's sexual harassment & retaliation called "attempts to discredit/disparage" constituting "fuel in a civil/criminal arena and make you out to look like you are harassing him". Pales compared to what those reporting assault get, I'm sure.

110

Xmas ghosts are stirring @toffph.bsky.social · 04/10/2026

I haven't forgotten about my offer to shared my phone recordings in relation to the USDoE complaint I'd made that they "investigated". That stuff's still pretty raw and often avoidance has been my cope. It's still something I'd like to share if it might end up helping others somehow.

The NYS Governor's Bill Jacket for it, establishing its legislative intent. It's surprisingly thin and lacking in public input! digitalcollections.archives.nysed.gov/Detail/objec...

Is there reason to believe compliance with EiE is better than the historically bad compliance with Clery? Does EiE have each college making its own definitions, guidelines, bills of rights, etc? Is that a good idea? The EiE law doesn't appear to specifically address sexual harassment?

He's definitely got something "holistic" to look forward to, judging from the article! “holes were actually forming in his skull.”

My parents actually considered Philip Philippo. It wasn't the weirdness of that, or the doubling of possible misspellings that convinced them otherwise, but the potential initials being peepee.

Looking forward to watching this Halloween movie sometime this month. No dialog; I'm often curious about movies that make that attempt. Will count for #100HorrorMoviesIn92Days (I'm over 100 already) and #Hooptober

15yrs ago my dep't chair, who'd been the Chair of the university's Presidential Advisory Committee on Sexual Assault, tried to get me expelled for reporting an untenured professor in her dep't for sexual harassment & for reporting her continually enabling him. Anyone who signs onto rape culture... 😡

Will definitely encourage my local library to get it! A little puzzled in the preview by the reading of the seed in Florida Enchantment as wearing off & the experience treated as a sort of vacation? The only cut I've seen has "Oh, Fred! I've had such a horrible dream!" as the final intertitle card.

So many university administrators and campus police are former members of frats, I suspect. Know that to have been the case at the main university I attended.

Reporting sexual harassment by mere untenured professor, & department chair for refusing to put a stop to it, instead requiring students to be subjected to unwanted offensive behavior as condition of receiving degree in the department and graduating was scary. Fifteen yrs ago; still f'd up about it.

Thanks for making those available! It's fairly trivial by comparison but I wonder if there's been much study of the threatening of witnesses?

Christian Nationalists believing in American Exceptionalism, mindlessly chanting initials and #1 while also wanting the country (and the world) to end ASAP is something.

I'm sure I'll watch ones from Algeria and Madagascar before the challenge is finished.

Detail of Letterboxd world map showing Africa, with some countries in green (indicating at least one movie has been watched for that country). Most of the countries are dark gray, indicating none have been seen. Nigeria is specifically highlighted.
