As a past subscriber, I got the email from them. Looks like it's just being replaced. Hard to tell if good, bad, or indifferent. Sounds like all reading histories, lists, etc. will transfer over. I think a bit more expensive(?), but also only one month delays from physical release to app release.

Putting aside that the Wings lists neither the Avs nor the Blackhawks, what is the deal with the Golden Knights being on almost every team's list? I'll admit I'm out of touch with the modern NHL, but in what world does that make any sense?

I mean seriously, if these guys were half the Delicate Geniuses they think they are, they'd know when to shut up. You're allowed to just not have takes about things and fields you know nothing about.

Reading the full answers, I don't really think Huang intended that core literacy & math skills don't matter. But to use his own words: "Does it matter?" The inarticulation of his answers reflects how disconnected the guy is from both K-12 learning and the lived experiences of regular human beings.

Same. It was inspiring. I went so far down the rabbit hole with IV-VI, especially. (And VII, too, of course.) The games, books about the games, etc. I was endlessly fascinated and couldn't get enough.

1988's Ultima V genuinely blew my teenage mind with the way it showed how extremism and myopic thinking could pervert even the most well-intended of ideas into something oppressive and terrible. The lessons of that game remain resonant ~40 years later—remarkable for a "little" tile-based CRPG.

Sad news to report. You may not know the name, Jeff Scott. But you should. He's the man who once wrote the script for 450 consecutive episodes of the legendary This Week in Baseball. He passed away over the weekend. Read more about his memorable baseball life here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Sc...

I'm a sucker for a good Ultima retrospective. This one from Peter Tieryas, writing at Kotaku, stands out, with fresh quotes from multiple members of the team and community contributors from Exult. Great stuff! (Ultima V will always be my fav, though.)

Finished Zero Company last night. It goes on the shortlist of things for which life on this planet can only be made better by having more of it. Seriously, EA, write Bit Reactor a check, and get these people back to work on this and future games. (Yes, I know these things aren't always that simple.)

...the replay crew correctly applied the rules. Sucks for WMU, who *deserved* to win. But nobody got cheated; no conspiracy here. What kind of conspiracy relies on a team that can't stop shooting itself in the dick for the last 3 1/2 quarters to complete a Hail Mary? It's so annoyingly absurd.

Speaking as a lifetime M fan who is a WMU grad, I wish to hell WMU *had* won that game. The postgame Discourse would've been infinitely less annoying and depressing than the last 48 hours. But this MAC reaction is so monumentally dumb. The stadium and NBC clocks were not in sync, and... 1/2

I rewatched it a month or so back (for the first time in forever), and I agree. It's not anywhere near the lows of The Final Frontier, and it's, at times, gorgeous to look at. Occasionally, it's even charming. But it's eight different kinds of clunky.

I haven't directly notcied or watched for it, but I saw it said this morning that any target that is out in open (no cover) that's in range is a 100 percent shot. If so, that's a huge difference from the XCOM days.

Todd Brakke @toddsfoolery.bsky.social · 31/08/2026
Something like 6hrs in; game is starting to open up a bit more. I *think* I saw one instance of a 100% shot missing, that I either misread or is surely a bug. But otherwise, I haven't noticed rampant high percentage misses. A couple times it's seemed like overwatch didn't trigger when it should.

Had one of those classic XCOM2 moments in Zero Company today, where my squad was positioned and overwatched exactly where a reinforcement squad was coming out. Four clankers, four wrecked droids. Totally free the next turn to move to into range of the escape zone. Perfect gaming moment.

A few hours in and no issues here either. Completely smooth, and so far, everything I wanted it to be—solid gameplay, and strong writing with little character moments that have brought a smile to my face multiple times.

Same. All week, as I was using my damaged board and thinking about replacement options, I've been paying attention to how/when I used the numpad, and it was * a lot*. (Also, trying to use Right Shift when you're used to using Lef Shift will test one's sanity and soul. lol)

Replaced my beloved 15yo Corsair mechanical keyboard after spilled tea killed the Shift key. The replacement Keychron Q6 is omg—so, so buttery smooth. I also learned boards w/numpads are the rarity these days? And I'm a weirdo for treating them as essential? Truly is the darkest timeline out there.

A new large-scale study involving over 2.5 million children reaffirms that there is no link between the MMR vaccine and autism, contradicting confusing messaging from the CDC. The study underscores the vaccine's safety, especially amid rising measles cases in the U.S., emphasizing the importance of vaccination against this dangerous disease.

on Sophie Cunningham and a trans controversy that doesn't involve any actual trans people: defector.com/the-right-ha...
This rhetoric is ideal for listeners who believe trans women are an issue that they're supposed to care about, but don't actually have any real-world experience with them. The hypothetical trans girl who's supposedly causing all this trouble in the WNBA is the perfect tool for the conservative movement. She can't fight back, she can't disprove anyone's assumptions, and she can't garner sympathy when she's the target of hate. The perfect trans girl is the one who only exists in the imagination of the loudest cis people. Her monstrousness, the need to "protect young girls in a locker room" from her, gives them permission to enact policies that in reality only harm the anonymous girls, cis and trans, who want to play sports without the invasive scrutiny of gender-obsessed adults.
