Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 30/01/2025Thanks! It’s such a great color palette against a bright blue sky 110
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 30/01/2025People have been asking me to draw this bird. I finally did it. A throwback to my Texas days and an absolutely stunning bird. #birds 4251
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 27/01/2025Thanks! I like how the rocks in the foreground created a kind of vignette. 010
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 27/01/2025I tell ya, my gull ID improved a lot in San Diego. This was my favorite gull species, though. Heermann's Gull. #birds 5230
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 26/01/2025I got two frames of a Spotted Sandpiper doing what Spotter Sandpipers do best, and I can't stop watching it. #birds 0220
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 26/01/2025I wouldn’t have known the difference had it not been quite a talker 010
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 26/01/2025I tried to be sneaky, but this Black Turnstone had me clocked at the La Jolla tide pools. #birds 1190
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 26/01/2025This one is fun because it’s actually an American x Black hybrid! 140
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 25/01/2025I had it on my checklist as American but then I realized that splotchy breast was good for hybrid 010
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 25/01/2025It’s a good guess but not quite. And to be fair this was a bit of a trick question. It’s an American x Black Oystercatcher hybrid! 100
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 25/01/2025The second-coolest bird I saw in San Diego. Bet you can't guess what it is. #birds 3190
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 25/01/2025One thing I love about birding in new places is finding a bird you didn't know existed. When I saw this bird, I assumed it was a Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, which is in range for San Diego. Then it vocalized, and I learned it was a California Gnatcatcher, a species I hadn't heard of! #birds 4321
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 25/01/2025I saw this Townsend's Warbler on a public bike path in La Jolla. As I photographed, a woman stopped me and asked what I was doing. I pointed up and said, "See the small bird with a beautiful face?" She replies, "A beautiful face. Isn't that all anybody ever wants?" 🤣 #birds 0301
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 21/01/2025A proud gull at Torrey Pines State Beach. My gull id is horrific, but I believe this is a Western Gull. #birds 1170
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 21/01/2025I saw a lot of cool birds in San Diego, and I’ll share some photos over the next few days. But the coolest bird I saw was one I didn’t get a photo of. This is the Swinhoe’s White-eye. Not my photo, but had to share it. #birds Photo by Ting-Wei (廷維) HUNG (洪) 0170
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 20/01/2025A Whimbrel, which I found foraging alongside the Long-Billed Curlews at Torrey Pines State Beach in San Diego #birds 0141
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 20/01/2025They are surprisingly graceful with that long bill! 110

Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 18/01/2025I made it to SD yesterday and am already having a great time! So many new birds. 110
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 13/01/2025The main thing is vocalization. Fish Crows have a very nasal call that is unlike an American Crow. 110
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 13/01/2025Sometimes Fish Crows are eating fish! 🤣 I also feel like Fish Crows have a slightly different social behavior. Hard to describe. I would also probably get it wrong 50% of the time… 110
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 13/01/2025Same. If they’re side by side maybe I can tell the difference. Good thing is both types tend to be pretty vocal! 110
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 13/01/2025Yep that’s how you get em. That nasal call is very distinctive. 010
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 13/01/2025Just your standard crow, right? Not so fast! This here's a Fish Crow. Generally a rarity, but we have a nice breeding population in my patch. #birds 5382
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 12/01/2025if meadowlarks were people they would be gru #birds 1375
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 12/01/2025Another lifer from this morning. American Pipit! #birds 1160
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 12/01/2025It’s been a bit since I really got to go out birding, and I got two lifers this morning! Horned Larks are awesome 010
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 12/01/2025Woke up early to try to find some winter lifers and k was rewarded! Four Horned Larks crossed my path! #birds 1212
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 10/01/2025I haven't gotten out too much. Work has been crazy, kids, etc. 000
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 10/01/2025When you sit still for too long at the @audubon.org Christmas Bird Count. Happy winter birding everyone! #ChristmasBirdCount #birds 1121
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 07/01/2025I'm seeking a great bird conservation organization to donate half of my December profits from @colorflock.com. Any recommendations? #birds 120
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 04/01/2025I had a dream last night that I positively IDd a “Yarn Owl” which basically looked like a cross between a Barred and a Snowy and was supposed to only live in Asia. It was exhilarating. #birds 060
Tennessee Bird Guy @tnbirdguy.bsky.social · 02/01/2025Larson is one of my favorite authors. And tbh I think Devil in the White City is one of my least favorite despite being his most famous work. If you haven’t read In the Garden of Beasts I highly recommend it. 020
