Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 26/11/2023Updating. I think Bluesky kind of sucks actually. Algorithmic feed curation tools are just not there and I see too much stuff I don't want to 110
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 23/11/2023Tangentially- about a year ago I decided to learn OpenGL. I have produced literally nothing in the way of graphics, but I *have* created a novel FRP reactivity library. Which I will definitely use for OpenGL stuff. Eventually. 110

Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 18/11/2023I think users probably care less about actual algorithms than they do the seeds/weights. Like what I want is "playlists" where I make collections of accounts and then browse algo feeds based on those. Basically like alts but just for the browsing part. 000
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 17/11/2023so far Bluesky is pretty cool but none of the algorithmic feeds feel up-to-scratch with X's For You. Also I hope they open this place up soon!! 010
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 06/11/2023All I want is a leftism which is intellectually honest, *genuinely* liberal (not punitive), but with some understanding of power dynamics. Is that too much to ask? 🙏 000
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 05/11/2023Metta/loving-kindness meditation is one of the most underdeveloped in terms of teaching practices. "Imagine things that make you happy :)" do you KNOW how much mental infrastructure there is out there to explicitly avoid this 000
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 05/11/2023I haven't had a crush in yeeears, idk if it's inherently a younger thing but I weirdly miss how much that messes you up lol. In the last ~1yr I get a lot more attention from women when I go out (which is honestly v important for my younger self) but deeper interest is just not there, on both sides 😔 000
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 04/11/2023Something I miss from Twitter/X is seeing why posts are on the algorithm feed - "liked by __" or at least being able to mouse-over a profile and see who follows them. Very useful for curating a good feed 010
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 04/11/2023The latest in my gradual acceptance of woo is that I think chakras might be real. At least not in the metaphysical sense but it seems right there are places on the body where stuff gets focused or blocked. Will report back 010

Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 04/11/2023Ok, dudes rock but most conventionally-attractive guys I see when out just have no sauce whatsoever. When they dance there's no belief, it's always with the subtext "haha look I'm cool but I can have a bit of fun too!" Some girls seem to love this though?? 010
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 02/11/2023Twitter hasn't noticeably change much for me content-wise since Elon's takeover, so I'm confused how people think it's a hellhole now. Ngl I assume they respond to ragebait all day and so the algorithm gives them what they want 🤷♂️ 000
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 02/11/2023The Vive XR Elite is a premium VR headset focusing on mobile, so you'd think it would play well with power-saving/travel. Nope, the controllers wake up via movement, and also sometimes randomly when stationary, so continuously drain power when not in use 👍 000

Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 02/11/2023Yeah, there's a load of biases/irrationality that people have when they're not trying to reason properly, but there are also weird misunderstandings of logic, badly taught "critical thinking" practices, and new biases among people who *do* try to be rational. Under-appreciated IMO 000
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 31/10/2023Rough idea I keep having... Strategies which, by following them, affect your ability to apply the strategy. "Be firm/forceful but don't destroy important things" - you can't, being forceful requires changing your thoughts on what is important to not destroy. 000

Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 26/10/2023Kind of insane that behaviour and feelings are wired both ways. If you try to act happy when you're not, you will dig up so many reasons why you think you shouldn't. If you try to stand up straight you will immediately know why you feel you need to slouch 000
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 26/10/2023Started being way less discriminate about what I put in my GTD inbox - I used to think it was only for task-like things but now I put any random thought in there. Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 25/10/2023This tool reminded me of something... I really want to try a writing tool based on recording you voice, like some intuitive controller where I can record, replace, insert, rearrange, speed-listen to snippets entirely with audio, eyes closed 120

Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 23/10/2023I don't like how most Buddhists, even monks, talk/write about it. "Suffering is caused by craving and skillful training is required to rid yourself of it" - this means something totally hellish to 99% of people. I consider it actively misleading. 000
Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 22/10/2023Being scared of walkable cities seems slightly less insane when you think of it as "government measure to make it more convenient to have less autonomy." Still not really true but that's the internal logic 110

Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 21/10/2023The autistic ideal is to set up the final, self-running algorithm for living, which once set off, learns and adapts to novel situations and requires no meta-level intervention. Tom Mewett @tmewett.bsky.social · 09/10/2023Some people use a strange definition of "easy" that lets them say e.g. "weight loss is easy, but most people fail at it." This makes no sense. The only sensible definition of "easy" is "most people who attempt it succeed." The correct conclusion is "__ is hard for reasons I don't understand" 020
