What do you think happens to 90% of rockets that are launched? Spoiler: They usually crash back to earth uncontrolled and explode. At least SpaceX are trying to make it come down in one piece in a known area rather than just dumping it into orbit.

So now instead of having a controllable vehicle in LEO you have a piece of space debris the size of an airliner covered in heat resistant tiles that could crash on a populated area. SpaceX should be commended for erring on the side of caution instead of pushing the ship too far.

And they specifically said that Starship would only remain in Orbit as long as was safe. If anything on board wasn't looking great they would immediately end the mission which is exactly what happened. They could have easily said "f**k it leave it up there" only for something catastrophic to happen.

Why is everyone so hund up on the mission duration? The primary goal was to get into orbit, deploy the payload and re-enter the atmosphere. All of which occurred successfully. Everything else was icing on the cake.
