I think there should be a 4 team cap from every league like the old days. If a team from your country gets qualification via winning the CL or ECL, it’s at the expense of a league position. 6 English teams is crazy, and I’m EPL bias. And sack off the extra place nonsense.

Yeah I agree it’s super fine margins. Which is why I was hastened to add Arteta is obviously a good manager and Arsenal are in a far better place! I wonder if he’s closer to a Poch than a Pep long term! But I also think they’d be mad to get rid of him.

I’m not just talking about individual games at all. I’m talking about entire seasons. I’m talking about Arteta’s lack of original ideas to get more results over the course of a season leading to trophies. Also didn’t beat city last year when it mattered. Didn’t beat Liverpool this year.

Completely agree it’s mainly Pep pre 2022. That’s why Pep beat him in 22/23 with Stones and inverting fullbacks. Although he copies Pep, using Zinchenko, but Pep quickly moves on again and beats him again in 23/24. This year I think could be the plateau, as more coaches have their number.

My comparison would be he’s a domestic Southgate. Take the emotion out of it. He’s a great club statesman. He’s elevated his team to where it should be but on the cusp of real success. He doesn’t have the tactical acumen to get them over the line.

I don’t think he has any of his own ideas which is why he’s always undone at the top top level, or by smarter up and coming coaches (Iraola). Always feels like he’s doing Pep’s ideas from the year before which Pep has moved on from. Never does anything tactically interesting v better team.

I’d like someone smarter than me to run with the theory that: Arteta is extremely good at enacting other people’s ideas but has none of his own. I think he’s a good tier b manager. He clearly gets his insurrections across and has improved his team. But /

Civil question: Any danger this is a poisoned chalice? Re-sale prices are horrendous but conversely people can generally buy tickets to any event if they want, and getting tickets first time is increasingly difficult - which can’t all be because of touts?

Terry Crews doing the F1 interviews was a shambles. Saying Max was his intro to F1, so clearly extremely new to the sport (if actually remotely interested at all) - and unable to offer anything in the in questions. A shame when you’re crowning the champion and after a tremendous race.

The Bosman chat is fascinating. I’m 31 - and I’m fully acquainted with a Bosman and recall it’s wider use But now, amongst friends Bosman is used all the time but not in football context, in general life with a jovial wink to football, like when a friend changes jobs. It must be generational.

Absolutely! And he was genuinely dynamite too - not like he was a fringe player. 40,000 Aberdeen fans singing his name after the league cup win in 2014! The story at the time was it was a back issue, which was causing the hamstring injuries. No doubt James has the best but hopefully gets sorted!

Different calibre but Aberdeen had a youngster Peter Pawlett who was broken by hamstring injuries. Went on loan to St J and they worked it out and basically fixed him. He was dynamite for a few seasons after that. Famously got VVD sent off in the first 20 minutes against Celtic once.

Perhaps an optimistic view. But if Reece James can eventually put these hamstring issues behind him, there are far fewer miles in his legs than other players his age. Hopefully he can enjoy a longer elite career as a result - essentially get this time back at the end. He doesn’t rely on pace either
