She was his favorite dancing partner. When Fred worked with Ginger Rogers, it took ten days for Ginger to master the dance number. Rita was such a skilled dancer, she mastered the number in six days. It was a shame they only made two films together. They remained friends until Rita got Alzheimers.

In one of Benjamin Franklin's first works as Silence Dogood, he wrote a satirical piece about children complaining their mother was punishing them by not taking them to a public hanging.

She lived long enough to record her own Audio version of her autobiography. She also corroborated Christina Crawford's story in "Mommy Dearest." When she visited Hollywood, MGM executives asked her to intervene in the way Joan Crawford was treating her children. Helen Hayes didn't know what to do.

It was supposed to be called "Catch-18", but Leon Uris had just published the novel "Milas 18." The publishers felt that the number needed to be changed to avoid marketing confusion.

The Judge in the film was played by Joseph Welch, who is remembered as the man who brought down Senator Joe McCarthy with the words, "Have you no shame, sir? Have you no sense of decency."

They were probably deciding how to divvy the profits from "Monsieur Verdoux." It was Orson Welles who gave Chaplin the idea of doing a comedy about a serial killer. Chaplin gave Orson Welles a screen credit and a check for his contribution.

Loved him in as the sensible Mr. Jarndyce in the 1980's dramatization of "Bleak House." He was also great as Elliot Templeton in "The Razor's Edge" with Bill Murray.

Though he looked nerdy, in the film "Choice of Weapons" he got to play a macho nobleman in medieval armor.

In the film "Puma-man" he got to satirize his Blofeld character. In one scene he walked into a room full of men wearing power suits, and they were quivering before this nerdy character in a Blofeld suit. One odd thing about this film, he kept calling the hero "Pew-ma-man" instead of "Poo-ma-Man."

In 1966, Rudi Blesh wrote a good biography, "Keaton." Also, PBS had a three-hour documentary, "Buster Keaton: A Hard Act to Follow." Peter Bogdanovich, shortly before his death, made a documentary about Keaton, which has been shown on Turner Classic Movies.

The worst choice Keaton ever made was to allow Paramount to make a bio-pic of his film career. The film focused mainly on his drinking problems. At the premiere, Buster and Eleanor wanted to crawl out of the theater. At least the film gave him enough money to buy a ranch.

In 1917, Buster Keaton was going to star in a Broadway show. He happened to meet an old vaudeville friend, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle who was starting his own studio. Keaton went with him to see it. Keaton was so impressed with movies, he dropped out of the Broadway show and made films with Arbuckle.

He always bragged it was Houdini who gave him his stage name. As a baby, Keaton felt downstairs and was unharmed. Houdini said, "That was quite a Buster!" In those days, "Buster" was slang for a fall. His parents started calling him "Buster" after that.

It was really Ted Cassidy doing a double role. In scenes where Lurch and Thing were together, an assistant director gave a hand. Also, Ted sometimes played Thing with his right hand and sometimes with his left hand. So, people can argue which kind of a hand Thing was.

"Sir Thomas More" had never been produced in Shakespeare's day becasue of anti-Catholic sentiment. Sir Ian McKellen produced it in 1964, making him the only living actor to premiere a Shakespeare play.

This was the one film Cary Grant hated making because he said he did not understand it. Perhaps he understood it too well. As a boy, he was told his mother had died. Years later, he learned she was in a mental hospital. Maybe Cary did understand Mortimer's fear of insanity running in his family.

The problem is that the Vice-President and 2/3 of the Cabinet members have to get the ball rolling. Since they are toadies for Trump, that is not going to happen. Also, you need 2/3 of the Senators to vote him out of office, and that is not likely to happen, at least until after the Midterms.

BVD was like a parody of "Myra Breckinridge." If you watched the films back-to-back you could see the same elements, such as a crazy agent and a transgender who wanted to rape a macho actor. Both films showed the crazy side of Hollywood, though Ebert's film had more of a body count.

Eva Moore gave a great performance as a repressed lesbian. There is a scene where she seems to be coming on to Gloria Stuart, and Gloria acts repulsed. Ernest Thesiger's best line in the film was when he plunked down a measily potato, and said with a haughty attitude, "Have a potato!"
