He wore close fitting high waisted trousers that clung to his thick thighs, and a set of medium height boots that were polished so finely that Kyran could probably see his own reflection if he stood close enough. Casian drummed his fingers nervously at his side as he met Kyran’s gaze, and Kyran wondered what he saw.

It didn't matter how many fears plagued Silvius' mind because sleep came to them too easily. They didn't even realize that they had fallen asleep until they were being roughly shaken awake by Aurora. Her skin was highlighted by the moonlight and the brush of gold beneath her right eye seemed to glow.
"We have to go," she whispered, her voice low enough that it was nearly drowned out by the muffled sounds of the tavern bow them. They had the feeling that she had never fallen asleep in the first place. They didn't feel like they had slept either, but from the position of the moon in the sky, hours had to have passed.

in my head rent free since the seventh grade

When I was a young man, not very Long in the service, there was an opening in a lighthouse newly built off the coast of Guiana, on a small rock twenty miles or so from the mainland. The pay was high, so in order to reach the sum I had set out to save before I married, I volunteered for service in the new light.
Three Skeleton Key, the small rock on which the light stood, bore a bad reputation. It earned its name from the story of the three convicts who, escaping from Cayenne in a stolen dugout—"

Finding out that I use the word "despite" a whole lot but only have one instance of using spite in any of my projects so I present to you that singular instance, from High Noon in Prosperity, my short in Dead Cowpokes Don’t Wrangle! 🫡

"What the hell," Mac said. Red. He almost didn't want to eat out of spite. They didn't even have a say in what was very likely their last meal. Still, Mac's mouth was dry and his stomach felt hollow. He lifted the glass to his lips before frowning with distaste. Apricot seltzer, only it was warm.

When he yanked the chain down, Felix staggered. “You really did a number on Cassian last night,” Kyran’s voice was rough, barely indiscernible as Felix struggled to yank his sword free. “You should have seen the look on his face,” another swing of the chain as Felix barely dove out of the way.

Meet the other two pov characters in my wip! Cassian is the crown prince, overlooked and underestimated by his father and weighed down by guilt over a past out of his control. Zephyr is his adopted brother, a sorcerer intended to be raised as a weapon but chosen for much more.

Meet two of the pov characters from my current wip! 🌈📚 Felix is a peasant who travels to the capital after his mother's disappearance in hope of finding answers. Kyran is the general, believed to be undeserving of his post and trying to use his position to uproot the kingdom from the inside.
