Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 05/10/2026We used to laugh at the “ideas guy” who brought nothing else to the table. 061
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 30/09/2026And every time they increase prices their big users (companies like the one I work for) start optimising and buying up capacity for open-weight Chinese models. They can’t just hike up the prices. 101
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 30/09/2026It’s already sort of happening. They are reducing subscription usage limits and one of the things they brag about the most for new models is cost. 000
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 27/09/2026It’s so good. There’s really something in removing convenience and slowing things down. Maybe it’s just beta community, but I’ve never talked with people this much while running from A to B nor felt such a feel of adventure when finding folks for a dungeon. 010
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 24/09/2026You're constantly saying that Classic/Vanilla art style is timeless. Location/world team clearly got the memo. The assets team clearly did not. The new 3D assets added to Forever are just... not consistent. They don't belong. Please fix it, it makes Forever look like a bad private server. 000
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 24/09/2026Now imagine me writing software that breaks into places. I would go straight to prison. We’re not all equal under the law. 010
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 19/09/2026Your argument of “well, it’s Poland, so of course labour is cheap” wafts of 1960s understanding of Central Europe. 101
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 19/09/2026Polish software engineering job salaries are nowadays not that much lower than those in Germany or the UK. It’s still a factor but not even close enough to explain the gap between (to stay in Europe) Ubisoft and Rebel Wolves or CDPR. 200
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 07/09/2026“I use this thing from two decades ago that doesn’t even accept new users and therefore all of AI is bad”. Dude. Supermaven died in like 2025. And models weren’t even close to what we have right now. 010
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 07/09/2026Even if someone wants to write code by hand (plenty of places this is still better, like game dev in my experience) not using them for exploration, planning and review? Bonkers. 020
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 07/09/2026And people thought the science-fiction or “people willing gave themselves up to be replaced by robots and AI” was too unrealistic… 000
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 06/09/2026My tests are a bunch of SceneTree headless Godot scripts… maybe I could refactor them to this. They effectively do that: set the scene, run some scripts, check properties. 010
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 31/08/2026For now unloading is not an option as it wouldn't persist any changes players made. The full lifecycle/hierarchy will have to be: active -> warm -> cold -> [serialise] -> [unload] -> frozen And then a frozen chunk could be re-heated if needed. 000
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 31/08/2026I might have to unload them later, if memory becomes a problem. But the idea is that green chunks are live and the further "stuff" is from the player the less fidelity (and CPU) needs to be spent on the simulation. Stuff like enemies could be simulated on warm chunks, but abstracted on cold ones. 100
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 31/08/2026Yay. World chunking now. So FOV works over chunks: they're loaded into memory on the server as "warm" (blue on debug map), then rendered on the client (green). Clients remove the chunks that are too far away, but the server keeps the warm ones. I'll use them for simulation. #gamedev #godot 172
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 30/08/2026Woah. Is texture streaming out yet? Or do you mean the trunk version from GitHub? 100
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 27/08/2026That would be amazing. Can’t wait for true “big world” support in Godot. 000
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 27/08/2026This is a disingenuous comparison. Same with the “you will be replaced by an engineer using AI; not AI”. It’s already happening. Juniors are suffering and teams are reducing from Product, DS, MLE plus 6 engineers to Product, DS, MLE and one engineer or two. It’s a real livelihood issue for folk. 010
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 26/08/2026Excited. I think the control and movement upgrades are nice. Definitely gearing up for Songs of the Past expansion. And it’s free to current TW3 owners. 010
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 25/08/2026The gameplay gives me a rough “After Inc.” vibe. Can’t wait! 010
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 25/08/2026After the End by Paradox? Interesting. I was really hopeful for the “fantasy-Stellaris”, but will definitely play this hell out of this one. 110
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 25/08/2026Does it work for PRs too? It’s amazing even if it is issues only. 100
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 25/08/2026OMG. I think saying “I love you” will be inappropriate, so I won’t. Pass my thanks to the team/person who shipped it. 💜 210
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 25/08/2026That’s exactly the rewrite they are doing right now with CoreCLR. 010
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 24/08/2026I’m currently mostly on Apple ecosystem (despite being in the UK I have my Polish Advanced Data Encryption with my own E2E iCloud key). For email I use the Canadian Fastmail, but I’m eyeing a move to Proton or Office.eu if that proves to be something not shit.office.euOffice EU - Europe's Open-Source Productivity SuiteWelcome to Office EU, the open-source productivity platform for all who value a free, transparent and sovereign working environment. 010
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 24/08/2026I was looking into it recently and it’s a bit of a pain. There’s Proton and Infomaniak which are both Swiss. There’s also NextCloud self-host option. Interestingly a Dutch-based office.eu might be a nice option. It’s effectively a hosted version of NextCloud.office.euOffice EU - Europe's Open-Source Productivity SuiteWelcome to Office EU, the open-source productivity platform for all who value a free, transparent and sovereign working environment. 110
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 23/08/2026The “I just want to share this note to a friend that doesn’t have Obsidian” is a massive pain point for me. :/ 110
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 23/08/2026Ah! Yeah. For a per-note sync, I found just Google Drive an option (without SyncThing). Might work? 200
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 23/08/2026I used iCloud for a long time and then gave up and started paying for the Sync. On Android I had decent success with SyncThing. 100
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 21/08/2026Theoretically, yeah. Although, it is meant to be a solo/co-op project, so it’s not a hard requirement. If it affects performance or feels sluggish, I’ll have to drop it. :) 010
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 21/08/2026*Technically, that's a lie. It calculates visibility omnidirectionally, then applies a mask it on the client. That'll change after I'm done with world chunking. **The world is modelled as 1x1x1m cubes. FOV works on a single storey (so, two cubes deep), but it can't handle more than that yet. 000
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 21/08/2026After a lot of swearing, the FOV system is finally working. 🫠 Visibility is calculated on the server, with clients only sending where they want to look and getting back the world they can see*. It works in semi-3D**, but I'll need to expand it when I add multiple building levels. #gamedev #godot 251
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 18/08/2026amazon.pl got so wrecked by Allegro, that I barely remember it even entered the Polish market in the first place. Allegro: 50% market share in e-commerce. Amazon: 10%. 💀 030
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 18/08/2026If we removed a road every time a driver misbehaves we’d be out of roads quite fast. 000
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 16/08/2026Yay. Pure C# server running the simulation and collision at 30Hz tick rate with a Godot game as a client. Entities, movement, collisions and the world itself are all replicated to clients. No movement interpolation yet, that's the next topic. This one might get somewhere. #godot #gamedev #indie 191
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 15/08/2026Other than what was already mentioned - tangled supports jujutsu! 100
Tomasz Gałkowski @tkg.codes · 15/08/2026Tangled supports jujutsu too, which is cool. I just wish ATProto supported private data (for private repos). And for jujutsu to support LFS. 010
