Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 16/08/2026I’m watching Don’t Say Good Luck. Its story of a mom with cancer is hitting a bit too close to home (both my parents are survivors), but I feel like this is gonna be cathartic. 000
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 12/08/2026The BF and I are watching old episodes of Absolutely Fabulous. Has there ever been such a deliriously unhinged pair of characters in the history of TV as Edina and Patsy? 040
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 10/08/2026I need to figure out a topic for my Writing Wednesday theme for my newsletter. What should I write about? A general update on projects? A particular aspect of writing? Why I love what I do? Something else? Help me, Bluesky hive-mind! I need a topic! 021
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Calling it now (re: House of the Dragon): Mysaria will become the Shepherd in season 4. 000
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 10/08/2026Thanks House of the Dragon for that bit of blatant homophobia there at the end. Very classy and forward thinking. 🙄 010
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Despite the fact that I've pivoted mostly to fiction writing and Appalachian stuff, every so often I remember that I do, in fact, have a PhD in film studies and that nothing's stopping me from writing books about movies, too. 020
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Was gonna do the Bronx Zoo today, but it’s hot as balls in NYC. Looks like it’s gonna be the Museum of the Moving Image instead. 020
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 08/08/2026Who’s the most beautiful woman on TV, and why is it Hannah Waddingham. 140
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 06/08/2026I’ve nearly finished the new season of King of the Hill, and I still adore this show. It’s funny and sometimes surprisingly profound. It’s a most welcome addition to contemporary TV. 040
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 06/08/2026So, I just read a report that Gandalf is going to be riding an oliphaunt across Rhûn in the new season of Rings of Power and, while I genuinely like this show a lot, this might be the moment when it crosses into hardcore fan fiction territory. 220
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 05/08/2026In the next couple of months I'm going to be doing author events at both a romance festival and an Appalachian literary festival. As someone who's work sits at the strange confluence of queer romance and Appalachian lit, this is literally a dream come true. 160
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 28/07/2026Man. It’s amazing how little can happen in an hour of House of the Dragon. Lol. 011
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 21/07/2026I didn’t think I’d see an adaptation of The Vampire Chronicles that could butcher Rice like The Queen of the Damned, but the finale of The Vampire Lestat is giving QotD a run for its money. 100
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 15/07/2026I’m still torn by that last scene of this weeks Lestat. Idk. It just felt kinda cheap and silly, more True Blood than Anne Rice. I have a hard time thinking of how it will have a satisfying payoff in the finale. What do you all think? 000
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 14/07/2026I’m currently watching Maximim Pleasure Guaranteed. Holy shit this show is terrific. Top notch acting, tight writing, propulsive score. Definitely one of the best shows I’ve watched this year. 000
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 13/07/2026I am absolutely judging you for your literary snobbery. I write and read romance, and I’m damn proud of it! 010
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 13/07/2026For the record, I'm of the opinion that Sunfyre is alive. 010
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 13/07/2026What’s a show set in Westeros without a beautiful psychopath. This is an Ormund Hightower subtweet. 010
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 12/07/2026The Episcopal service I went to today was so lovely. I’m not one of those who usually says they felt the Spirit, but I got a little weepy during the sermon and when the rector gave me a blessing during Communion. We have such a lovely congregation, and I’m so happy to join them on Sundays. 010
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 12/07/2026I’ve enjoyed every Cat Sebastian book I’ve read, but I’m already 25 pages in and this one might be my fave! 000
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 12/07/2026Y’all are mocking Lindsey Graham’s death. Don’t you know how how many of his sugar babies are grieving today? Shame on you. 030
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 11/07/2026Not me getting all weepy over a Colleen Hoover movie. 😭 010
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 03/07/2026If you love spice, they don’t come much spicier than my new queer Appalachian romance, Hittin’ the Right Note. It’s the perfect read for those who love loads and loads of queer joy in their MM romances (and honestly, who doesn’t?!) It’s available now on Kindle, KU, and in paperback. 020
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 29/06/2026IMHO, House of the Dragon is at its best when it focuses on the central characters--Rhaenyra, Daemon, and Alicent--and lets the actors just let loose. Everyone else is fine, but it's these three characters who are really the central sources of narrative and emotional energy. 011
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 29/06/2026The second episode of House of the Dragon is quite good. Definitely some of the best we’ve seen since the first season. 000
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 28/06/2026What an amazing evening at Four Seasons Books! I had a great time chatting with @hiddenpoetmusic.bsky.social, who’s even more enchanting in person than online. We talked about writing, what brought us to our work, and all things queer joy. Thank y’all for being amazing. You’re angels! 031
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 27/06/2026Has Andrew Rannells ever played a character who wasn’t absolutely insufferable? 010
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 26/06/2026While I really do enjoy House of the Dragon a lot, as I'm finishing my review (going live in a bit), I really realized a.) how little I care about most of these characters and b.) how really, really sloppy the writing has been from the jump. 200
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 26/06/2026I’ve loved his other books, so I knew this one was going to be good. Stuart has a keen eye for grim human detail, and his mastery of setting is unmatched. His books make me miss Scotland in all of its austere, breathtaking beauty. 000
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 26/06/2026Felt cute. And also I still love my cute little queer Appalachian romance debut. Can you blame me, though? 😉 030
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 24/06/2026 I know it’s not the point of Cape Fear, but I really need Patrick Wilson to ruin me. Like. Yesterday. 020
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Cape Fear is like if they took a film noir from a Poverty Row studio and filmed it in Technicolor. It’s lurid. It’s absurd. It’s compulsively viewable. 110
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 24/06/2026I just started the Apple TV version of Cape Fear, and I gotta say that I love the way the show just leans all the way into the pulp of it all. 130
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 22/06/2026I'm back at work in the Appalachian horror novella, and I think I'm really letting my inner country boy out. One character is described as being "stubborn as old dirt," and if that isn't just the most Appalachian thing I've ever written. 010
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 22/06/2026I quite enjoyed the premiere of House of the Dragon, though it did remind me that this whole saga is a tremendously depressing one, a long slog through misery, death, and slaughter. Seems very apropos for our current moment, though... 000
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 17/06/2026Now watching the second episode of The Vampire Lestat, and I adore how totally bonkers this show is. Just like the novel. And Sam Reid continues to be a vision. 020
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 14/06/2026Jared, my snarky/grumpy MC in Country Road Romance, to Charlie, his golden retriever love interest. (I still love these two messy characters, even a year after they were introduced to the world). 010
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 13/06/2026I’ve once again sold out of my queer Appalachian Romantasy A Bond of Blood and Stone! I clearly need to hurry up and get the sequel done!! 020
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 12/06/2026I’m ashamed to say I’ve never read anything by Armistead Maupin, but I picked up Michael Tolliver Lives today, and I ADORE IT. I will definitely be reading more! 230
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 11/06/2026I'd have a lot more respect for the anti-DEI crusaders if they'd just be honest about what they really mean and just say, "We don't want Black people in higher ed (or anywhere else)." At least have the courage of your racist convictions! 000
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 09/06/2026The Starz show Amadeus is basically Heated Rivalry for period drama girlies. 020
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 09/06/2026I’m currently reading Douglas Stuart’s John of John, and not for the first time I’m struck by how much Scottish lit resonates with my Appalachian soul. 010
Edith Pilaf @tjwest3.bsky.social · 09/06/2026ICYMI, I had some mixed feelings about Obsession, so I wrote about them in my review. It's a scary and thought-provoking film, but I think it gets trapped in the very contradictions of patriarchy it's trying to criticize. omnivorous.substack.com/p/film-revie...omnivorous.substack.comFilm Review: "Obsession"Curry Barker's remarkable film examines the horrors of patriarchy, even as it also falls prey to some of that system's own contradictions. 010
