Someone at the American Bar Association ate their Wheaties this morning.
ABA
It has been three weeks since Inauguration Day.
Most Americans recognize that newly elected leaders bring change. That is expected. But most Americans also expect that changes will take place in accordance with the rule of law and in an orderly manner that respects the lives of affected individuals and the work they have been asked to perform.
Instead, we see wide-scale affronts to the rule of law itself, such as attacks on constitutionally protected birthright citizenship, the dismantling of USAID and the attempts to criminalize those who support lawful programs to eliminate bias and enhance diversity.
We have seen attempts at wholesale dismantling of departments and entities created by Congress without seeking the required congressional approval to change the law. There are efforts to dismiss employees with little regard for the law and protections they merit, and social media announcements that disparage and appear to be motivated by a desire to inflame without any stated factual basis. This is chaotic. It may appeal to a few.
But it is wrong. And most Americans recognize it is wrong.
It is also contrary to the rule of law.
The American Bar Association supports the rule of law. That means holding governments, including our own, accountable under law. We stand for a legal process that is orderly and fair.
We have consistently urged the administrations of both parties to adhere to the rule of law. We stand in that familiar place again today. And we do not stand alone. Our courts stand for the rule of law as well.

Any chance someone with Trump’s ear is strategic enough to get Matt nominated as a way to force him out of R politics all together? Because outside of ultra Trump maga world, he seems to be universally despised by Rs.

Good thing we’ve never seen coordinated disinfo campaigns about the pandemic or elections (esp as AI and deep fakes increase).
A federal judge on Tuesday blocked key Biden administration agencies and officials from meeting and communicating with social media companies about “protected speech,” in an extraordinary injunction in an ongoing case that could have profound effects on the First Amendment.

Judge blocks U.S. officials from tech contacts in First Amendment case
The Trump-appointed judge’s move could upend years of efforts to enhance coordination between the government and social media companies.

Sometimes I remember that couple days when CNN, Today Show, Fox News all wanted to interview me about Microsoft — not about my attempted class action gender pay equity lawsuit, but about Bill Gates’ affair with an employee. Never met him (or her). I offered to discuss pay equity. They ghosted. 👻

For sure but typically disruption happens when competitors offer better value to users, not because the legacy bigs implode under the weight of their leadership’s ego and ignorance.

Would love for Elon’s fan bois to explain how his genius tweet limiting plan includes no search, no response history, no threads, no bookmarks, no tweet history. Advertisers must be thrilled.

If this was a plan (and not bc he failed to pay invoices for critical services that were shut off last night at end of Q2) of all times to limit API access and users ability to READ tweets, why choose a long holiday weekend when advertisers are spending big for July 4th sales events? Makes no sense.

It just doesn’t pass the sniff test that scraping all of a sudden created such dramatic performance problems that Twitter had no choice but to put everything behind a login. Scraping was the open secret of Twitter data access. We knew about it. It was fine.

We want great UX yet oddly it’s apparently not intuitive to execs that requires understanding the *value* to users. Twitter/Reddit were my google. I followed security to understand issues as in-house counsel, BIPOC, LGBTQ to be a btr ally, ADA to not be an ass. They were a window to learn and grow.

This country is so far right that we’re forced to fight over whether people with six figures of student debt can have $10,000 forgiven instead of fighting for free education for all so this debt never accumulates in the first place.
