tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 07/10/2026The areas north of Montreal are filled with anti-TGV signs, even far, far away from where any train would conceivably go. Those are also PQ target ridings. 010
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Allow me to just point out that the non-separatist parties have their own issues. No matter your personal position, this is not a simple binary election. 100
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 05/10/2026You've forgotten ethno-nationalism as an axis independent of separatism. 120
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Not me! I might stay, I might leave, but I have no intention of living in Belfast circa 1972. 010
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I worry that in a PQ minority situation, QS will happily trade away minorities for increased transit funding or something. Which in most circumstances I would support, but right now..eesh. 010
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 23/09/2026I think it's the opposite: the federal NDP doesn't have the resources to contribute much to these networks. However, they could position themselves like the Bloc: vote for us to advocate for federal cooperation for whatever Eby/Kinew/Chow want. Might help the prov/muni left be more ambitious. 021
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Conservatives are furthest right, though much more libertarian than anything else. The QS are currently the only left party, PQ is a mix of socdem myth and whatever the leader of the day wants. Leftish under Lisée, opportunistically angry under Plamondon. 010
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Yeah, I'm not sure if this is right. If we're North American, then we're also American. It's our neighbours who have had 250 years to come up with a proper name for themselves, and failed. 010
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 11/09/2026My theory is that they've convinced themselves that because they get less paid/unpaid media attention, they must repeat the same message over and over. Which has a certain logic, but comes at the cost of being responsive to changing events. 030
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 02/09/2026I love skiing on these trails, but it drives me nuts that I have to drive to get to them. Bring back the trains, and bring back the patrimonial ski trails! Win-win, 1930s style. 041
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 01/09/2026In Montreal your best bet is enrolling as an independent student at Concordia - you might just make the deadline! Or possibly UdeM. 010
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 31/08/2026It's not the size/power differential, Canadians aren't intimidated by that, it's more the frustration at how hard it is to get through to our neighbours that this isn't an adventure in a far-land, the failure of this relationship will actually affect them in material ways. 010
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 24/08/2026"Okay than we are not allies." This is the crux - if the Dems aren't willing to do anything different, then it doesn't ultimately matter to us in Canada what happens in November. Those median voters will still be there in 2028, and will still be used as the excuse to continue status quo policies. 010

tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 03/07/2026I spent four years trying to cross the de Maisonneuve bike path to get my child to daycare. Whether at a traffic light, stop sign or any other intersection 90% of cyclists blew through without stopping for us. Cars are bad, but Montreal cycling culture is pretty awful too. 110
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 07/06/2026My Canadian university experience was, read twenty books on this topic, you will still know nothing. In the US, it was read this one chapter from the textbook, now go be proconsul of Iraq. (applies to undergrad only) 110
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 07/06/2026Those US elite universities are very selective in their intake and get fantastic young people enrolled. But once you're in, it's a social club combined with a program of self-esteem inflation necessary to be part of the ruling class, either in government or business. 120
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 16/04/2026Well, floor-crossing can go both ways. Or sometimes MPs resign for health or career reasons. Or matters of principle. Or because of scandal. Or Carney gets exhausted with every single member of his caucus having an effective veto on everything. 040
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 13/04/2026To be fair, Stephen Harper didn't close down a Parks Canada site about a War of 1812 battle. 020
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 07/04/2026I think what you're supposed to do is get in a car/bus/train, go to Washington and blockade the White House until all this stops. Bring food and weather appropriate clothing. 021

tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 27/03/2026Maybe part of the lesson is that Quebec has a culture of solidarity and sticking up for itself that should be adopted by others too? 100
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 27/03/2026It is a Montreal based company, a flight from Montreal, and a Francophone pilot. No one's complaining about Westjet here, this IS the company that's supposed to be the 'elsewhere." 110
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 23/03/2026If it's related to an offence committed on a public road, yes. As a matter of curiosity, what would the law have been if he had been seated on a motorcycle? My brief google search didn't turn up much. 000
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 23/03/2026I very much dislike the idea that vehicles are protected private spaces. Driving on a road with other people is actually the most public thing you can do. Just because there is a roof and a door does not make it a house. 100
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 16/03/2026I also find it odd that deepfake videos of the PM, cabinet ministers and other major figures are circulating freely on major platforms. 011

tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 03/11/2025There's also the hard-to-explain-to-outsiders cultural clash between the Plateau - the highly gentrified bourgeois neighbourhood that is the heartland of Projet - and the rest of the city. 000
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 25/07/2025Please do. There's a lot pf well-meaning people trying to figure out the best way forward. 030
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 22/06/2025It should be a very basic principle of Canadian foreign policy that big countries don't get to bomb small countries without, at minimum, some kind of UN approval. Whatever you think of Iran, this principle protects Canada too. 0100
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 27/05/2025Of course, a Bloc Alberta would really make things interesting. 000
tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 27/05/2025Currently the smaller parties are on the left, so a right-leaning Liberal party would lose voters to them, while Conservative support would stay the same. In a multi-party system, the current level of Conservative support gives them government, if the Liberals even a small number of voters. 100

tislo.bsky.social @tislo.bsky.social · 22/05/2025I hate this framing so much. I found the vast majority of people tried hard to do the right thing, and instead of remembering this as a time of solidarity, we've chosen the remember the few outliers. 130
