Twenty years ago last week: the first TIOB gig. So long ago we had a MySpace link on the poster. Only Avast!, who went on to be TIOB regulars, are still going (going again?). Sleazies remains a crucial Glasgow venue. (The posters got better later when other people started to help with them.)

Big fan of this smashing photo by the splendid Jake Lewis of the delightful Nico of the superlative Avast!, for some reason. (Get all up in my DMs if you would like to be a follower of Nico's fashion.)

We don't have a contract because this is DIY but Kaddish and I wrote an agreement on how we'll do stuff based on the things we think are important. Here's what we've called the 'values of DIY' for the purposes of putting out their next album together.
The Band and The Label make this agreement in line with the values of
DIY, which for these purposes are:
- To value music for music's sake, and over profit
- To value the community of which music is part, and to which it contributes
- To use music to help to foster solidarity, inclusion and social connection
- That the use of AI in the writing, playing or development of music, lyrics and art is antithetical to DIY
- To keep the price of The Record and any related merchandise or gigs reasonable; and
- To treat each other, any others involved in the creation, promotion or celebration of The Record, and anyone who buys or wishes to buy The Record fairly and well.

Kaddish Episode 4: The Final Mix Listening Party. The album exists and with a few last tweaks, some final vocals and massive thanks to the endlessly patient Ross Middlemiss, it's ready to go for mastering. More chat on release logistics in the not too distant future.

It’s happening, pals.

Very excited to get my lugs round this. These lovely lads played a TIOB gig back in 2013 which was... decent.

Pals, its the worst-kept secret in the world… The new incarnation of TIOB is a record label. It will exist to help document and amplify DIY music in Scotland. TIOB01 will be the 4th LP from your friends and mine, Kaddish. More details - release date, pre-order, and the like - to follow soon. Ta.

Twenty years ago today I put this gig on, which was the direct inspiration for TIOB coming together as a gigs collective.
Gig poster for Latterman at Nice n Sleazy on Thurs 20 April 2006. £5 in! Alpacinos, I Stand Alone and 15 Minutes supporting. Poster is Mattie Jo Canino from Latterman singing birds.

This has been an exciting development for me.

One of the saddest sights in Glasgow. I don’t know why City Property refused the former workers’ bid to take it over but surely any plan to bring it back is better than letting it decay like this.
The 13th Note Cafe from across the street. It looks manky and it's increasingly covered in posters and general clattiness.

The eagle-eyed among you may have noticed that new TIOB has a slightly different logo. Originally designed by Sean Leahy back in 2006 (!), it has been refreshed for TIOB 2.0 by DIY punk rock stalwart and player in many good bands, Gone Wishing. Thanks, GW! www.gone-wishing.com
The TIOB logo, white on a pink background. Inside a circle it says 'THIS IS OUR BATTLEFIELD' at the top and 'GLASGOW DIY' at the bottom. Inside another circle there's a stylised image of the Duke of Wellington.
