3.) If you'd like to learn more about the situation, the Hays Post has a recent publication that alerted us to the upcoming decision/announcement. If you'd like to hear about the impact this has, Science Friday discussed this announcement and other recent closures of NH Museums across America.

2.) The decision of the FHSU comes at a time when scientific research and funding are already under attack and it is disappointing to see them - unknowingly - playing a role in the disinsentivising of science.

1.) The Sternberg Museum of Natural History was a staple of my childhood and a major reason why I pursued science. So, the recent news that it'd be shutting its doors at the end of the year came as a shock. While we lived in Kansas, Sternberg was a MONTHLY trip.
A photo of the original poster in front of Sternberg's famed "Fish-Within-A-Fish": the acclaimed fossil finding that put Fort Hays State's institution on the map.

Are natural history museums in trouble?
The country’s oldest natural history museum, in Philadelphia, has closed its doors to visitors. Will other museums follow?

Allele-specific zinc metalloprotease B influences cardiac damage during invasive pneumococcal disease
Luck et al. identify the bacterial protein ZmpB as a key factor in heart damage during severe Streptococcus pneumoniae infections. Variants of ZmpB with FIVAR domains enable cardiac cell invasion, whi...

By far one of the coolest things I saw during my hours of slide observations: You're looking at what are supposed to be the leaflets of the mitral valve. However, they've become so overwhelmed by pneumococci (purple clouds) that they've transformed into the masses you see below.

When public media disappears, so do the stories that bring us together. With federal funding eliminated, millions may lose their last trusted source of news and connection. If that matters to you, now’s the time to act. Donate: n.pr/458sOhq
