Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things. Here’s a blurb on what I mean:

Some thoughts:
When using GenAi as a mood board you don't get sources. This means you deprive yourself from knowledge.
You generated a location? You deprived yourself of knowing more about the interesting parts of the world and why things came to be.
Generate an armor or costume? You deprived yourself on real world techniques, function, form and history.
You generated art inspirations? You deprive yourself of learning about artists from history or lock out living ones from potentially being hired.
Ethical issues of using GenAi models aside, one ends up making visuals mood boards devoid of reality and history. With it one deprives themselves from learning about our world and who is living in it, inadvertently making your work weaker, because of how detached it is from our shared human reality and history.

It's my birthdaay and sharing my art would be a great gift 🥹💫🫀

A comic page depicting a scene from the book 'The Crimson Moth'
As follows: A panel of a woman's hand reaching out for a wine glass, then a panel of a man and that woman - His hair is short and styled back, he's wearing a suit, she's wearing a red gown, her long straw blonde hair styled in a semi-crown-braid, a few curly strands falling over her face - looking at eachother as the woman drinks wine and she asks 'Hunting anyone in particular?' - He replies 'Perphaps.'

An elf woman with fair skin and white medium short hair, the under of which emits a yellow glow (same as her eyes), with a platinum head piece and earrings, dark robes, white lashes and her hand is made of blue-yish crystals. Black background

A comic page of a water nymph with long dark hair falling in love with a nature fairy with short silver hair

Old father, old artificer, stand me now and ever in good stead

Digital painting. A person draped in fabric leans over and out from their gown & shawl bursts a herd of deer. Birds rush past. The background has the appearance of swirling oxidized metal.
