LIHTC turns 40 this year! It financed more than one-fifth of all new multifamily rental housing built since 1987. But LIHTC production varies widely across states and metros. See how your state compares: www.urban.org/research/pub... @urbaninstitute.bsky.social

Over 40 years, the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit has financed 3.3–3.7M affordable #rental homes—the largest federal source for affordable rental #housing development. But LIHTC production hasn’t been evenly distributed. Explore the #data across states and metropolitan areas. urbn.is/4evRIfD
This is a hexagonal map showing variations in the number of newly financed Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) units per 10,000 residents across U.S. states from 1987 to 2022. States are color-coded, ranging from light blue (fewer units) to dark blue (more units), indicating the density of LIHTC units. The District of Columbia is highlighted in the darkest blue, signifying the highest density. Data sources include the National Housing Preservation Database and the American Community Survey.
