Wait, wharfie time is an actual thing? Like big screen, loudspeakers and everything? Supposedly happened during our game earlier in the season and I didn't even notice it then. (Probably busy lamenting Freo having caught up so much) #AFLFreoCats

It is always the same betrayal: the public interest is sacrificed for the sake of immensely wealthy people. And Andy Burnham has already gone and done it. My column on how Burnham needs to defy the ultra-rich if he's not to follow Starmer out of the door. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Andy Burnham has already made a mistake that will cost him his premiership: he lost his nerve over political donations | George Monbiot
Being subservient to the interests of the wealthy now means that his hands are tied, and he will be unable to tackle Britain’s most pressing issues, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

At the 100 lowest-paying major corporations — including Walmart, DoorDash, and Amazon — CEO pay averaged $17.5M in 2025. Median worker pay was just $36,571, a ratio of 614 to 1. Those same 100 companies spent $108.6B on stock buybacks last year. How can anyone defend this?

I blame capitalism too partly. It latches onto any useful political vibe and emphasises it to increase profits. It is a very corrosive force on any politics. It needs to be subject to the political sphere not vice versa as it is ATM. If racism, sexism whateverism makes profit it will get pushed.

It is a country founded on bigotry and a genocidal war with the native population. Unsurprisingly it remains a bigoted country that is both pro war and very good at it. A leopard doesn't change it spots.

British politics has always had a hard core of proto fascist, racist, classist conservatives. They are just voting for another party but they aren't gone. They will always be there, supporting capital, keeping the lower classes down and doing their bit to keep Britain white. Nothings really changed.
