Whenever I write something about a railway under performing, I get people - usually from Great Britain - whingeing at me that their railway is worse. Not only is it not necessarily true, but it is also tiring. So I wrote about it! jonworth.eu/my-train-is-ev…

"My train is even worse than your train!" and why that is quite tiring, especially from people from Great Britain
Yesterday I was looking at the ticket cost and regularity of service of the ex-Thalys, now Eurostar, Bruxelles - Paris service. In terms of the speed of the service and the quality of the infrastructure, this route is excellent - more than 90% of the trip is on high speed lines

For a long time they've sat outside the centre of political influence & been ignored. Recently, as the only credible response to the right, they've stepped into the centre & massively influenced politics. Forced change of leadership & direction of labour govt. That, for now, is success 2/2

Not sure that's entirely true. We've become accustomed to parties selling out to get elected. Power over principles. Then in power they're just puppets for whoever pays them. The Greens have always put principles first. Their purpose so far has been to influence the wider political narrative... 1/2

Of course. Not sure where they would find a heart in the current conservative party though.

Would any other party be written off due to an unendorsed motion backed by 2000 unelected people who only got to vote because they paid a fee? Who will quitters vote for now? Sure be angry but get a grip. Who do they defect to? Or do they abstain because things ain't perfect? The far right love this

It's disappointing to see the amount of abuse and idiocy here on BS when so many of us left Twitter to get away form that. So many bad takes and character assassinations where there could be healthy and objective discussion.

This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky

Just saw someone say their AI runs their fantasy football team and I can’t stop laughing. Like, I’m sure everyone’s doing it or something but it’s very funny to me that pretending to be a team manager was so hard that you needed to pretend to pretend to be a team manager

But WHY?!
000
timwhitemore.bsky.social @timwhitemore.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It's an indictment of modern society that complex and nuanced subjects are condensed down to slogans that people can be pressured to side with or against. Populists exploit this, mostly on the right (stop the boats etc) but it's across the political spectrum. Media "analysis" a major factor

timwhitemore.bsky.social @timwhitemore.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
It's disingenuous to suggest a leader can prevent racism in a their party (which party does this?!). ZP is hostage to shoddy governance whereby a couple of thousand people can pay a fee and set party policy without much oversight. Mistakes have been made & the party has to grow up.
041
timwhitemore.bsky.social @timwhitemore.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I didn't realise that. Either way it's an indictment of the system if a couple of thousand people can just pay to attend and then dictate party policy! Leaves the party wide open to abuse or minority control. Member led policy making is great but the leadership needs to be able to moderate it

timwhitemore.bsky.social @timwhitemore.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Not defending such a terrible motion but as I understand it any member can table a vote and in this instance less than 1% backed it, but that was enough for it to become official party policy. Can't believe they allow such a lax system. The own goal the press have to been desperate for.

These stats are a self fulfilling prophecy. If there were fewer large orgs that gap could be filled by medium & small orgs, who would likely pay more tax and keep more money circulating around the national economy.

One of the greatest joys at my allotment is taking time to get super close to pollinators as they collect pollen from plants. Incredible to see how they work and to think of what they are doing. Such beautiful creatures. They are miracle workers. I leave water out for them by the lavender.

So what? It's a message to potential investors that Britain isn't going to hand out corporate welfare to attract investment. If there's a legitimate business opportunity then the right businesses will come. Wild that you want us to continue to subsidise bad orgs so as not to scare off more of them

Hotel designers are a breed apart. I've never met one but I imagine them to be coke snorting hipsters with who spew out design concepts without ever staying one night in their rooms. Rooms with 20w bulbs exuding a gloomy x-files ambience. Driftwood storage. 1 chair for 2 people. No hangers. 1/2
