iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

Yeah 😒 - but currently we are making it work for us because of the 3 hours of free power each night and and 18 kWh of battery

We've just been "upgraded" to 50c / kWh 😒

Gutted. I've listened to TMM for at least 8 years on a daily basis and it's been a massive source of new music for me 😥

There's really good coverage for this time of year but it froze overnight making it treacherous this morning. That, combined with the sheer number of people fighting for the piste, made us get out of there...

Random observation of mine but I reckon lots of families who would normally go overseas for their September school holidays have stayed in NZ and have gone skiing instead

A webcam screenshot of Cardrona ski field showing it absolutely heaving with people. In previous years it's normally fairly quiet at this stage in the season

Super impressed with the SigEnergy gear. Dumping both the solar and the battery into the car is awesome

I ran another laptop with Linux Mint on it for a week or so and it was really really good for 90% of what I do but there just isn't any current replacement for Fusion 360 at this point - although Autodesk have talked about a browser version in the works

130

Tim Welch @timwelch.nz · 25/09/2026

I'm confident with Linux but my main hurdle is Fusion 360 😒

Much more interesting reading than current news 😎

Spending my lunchtime reading the exploits of my great, great grandfather...

Has the fish life come back to that lagoon?

No, that's pasteurise

I literally couldn't believe that there are two homes in our small street that burn diesel for heating

Back in the day you could be bought before a court for not vaccinating your kid

Hang on to that old tech! The new stuff would be forcing you to watch ads

Used to love that beer on tap in London 😋

Tonight's adventures in geekery

A smart switch is held in electronic helping hands while multiple wires are connected to it and then to a USB to TTL connector installed in a laptop

The final result which is firmware that only talks locally rather than back to overseas. Instant integration with Home Assistant for those in the know

Nah, it can't use your public IP location as mine always locates as Timaru

I had the opportunity to buy one cheap back in the '80's and regrettably turned it down. The Wanaka Toy & Transport museum has a great example on show.

Good lord... I've just learnt about a music genre called 'phonk' which my 10yo was asking about. Apparently its nothing to do with syncopated basslines and horn sections

000

Tim Welch @timwelch.nz · 24/08/2026

If it's going to happen, as per comments, can we get progress updates? I swear you could have a YouTube channel with content of making this

Bought both our Hyundai Ioniq 5 and our BYD Shark 6 without test driving. I felt that the driving experience would be fine and I was proved right. But there was a lot of research that went into them prior to ordering..

Catching any of the Vuelta while you're there?

000

Tim Welch @timwelch.nz · 22/08/2026

Well it was super easy with the web installer and I followed a YouTube video alongside the instructions. The hard block is going to be Google Pay. It is never going to be supported and I've just become so used to using it that I never carry a wallet any more. Might it be worth the tradeoff??

010

Tim Welch @timwelch.nz · 22/08/2026

Well that was relatively easy! Feels snappy.
