Newcastle played so well to stay in it right until the end. Wish they’d have gotten it done but what a rise from the wooden spoon to only one point down in a grand final.

I saw a silver gull grab one on the beach this morning and dunk it in the sea before eating it. They must be pretty bland if seagulls are having to add salt. (I’m fully aware there’s probably a better reason).

It’s the first time I’ve seen bogong moths in years. They’re endangered so I’m glad they’re still around. Although, I do wish the few hundred of them right outside my door could migrate to the alps a little faster.

There goes my weekend and I’ll have absolutely no regrets.

I grew up in the area and have been countless times but this view still never gets old.
The Three Sisters to the left of frame, a valley behind stretches up to the plateau of Mount Solitary and the cliffs of Kings Tableland behind. The late day sun shines on the cliffs in the centre and left back.

Winding the windows of the car down, blasting I Drove All Night and doing this is *literally* the best thing.

I have similar thoughts. It just seems like a cynical play to negate their poor management of the contest.

My mum’s place, in true Australian style, is insulated no better than a tent. It’s winter and I have literally opened all the windows because it’s actually warmer *outside*.

A quick day trip to… Siberia?
A white road sign on silver poles reads “Siberia”. A forest of dead gum trees in front of a green forested mountain. Grey clouds lead to wisps of white cloud on blue sky to the distance.

On track for 6 days off.
Two railway tracks to the left of the frame head into the distance. A gravel platform on the right and a wooden railway sign, white border, white text, black background, reads Michelago.

This is just a blatant money making venture without regard for the actual performances on the night or viewership of the show… and we wonder how it’s so easily gamed.

Went and sat down at Port Kembla Beach for a bit and watched New Holland Honeyeaters, Yellow Robins, Eastern Spinebills and Silvereyes dart around the banksia candles.

On my first Marayung train on the South Coast. First impressions… shiny and new with slightly more room (bye bye 3x2 seating and good riddance). Second impressions… why is there no footrest?!

Sydney: a city that excels itself in getting worse in every way, day on day. But don’t dare suggest to them that anywhere else is better. Because harbour, apparently. 🙄

I’ve only seen the ones that roost on the roof of my building flying around today… nothing up close, but I saw this beauty at Christmas… and it would very much have appreciated some of my sandwich.
Australian Raven (or maybe Little Raven… they’re hard to ID yo 😅) stood on the grass waiting in vain for some sandwich crumbs.

This sounds like me the last time Aurora Australis was supposed to be visible. If the faint green tinge wasn’t in the photo, I’d have questioned if I hadn’t just imagined it to feel better. Will I ever learn (probably not).

I don’t know who suddenly decided in the last few years that escalators can’t be used as stairs if they’re turned off/broken. It’s infuriating.

Why do none of the down escalators work. Fix it Sydney.

Sydney airport is just like everything in Sydney - it just keeps getting worse and worse. It’s as if an airport was dropped onto a perfume shop.

Stan… pfft… more like Scam.

The free to air coverage of the Winter Olympics in Australia is atrocious. It’s 50% ads, 40% self indulgent montages, chat and circle jerk… and at most 10% sport. They then say to subscribe to Stan for full coverage (which needs an additional subscription on top for access to sport). Yeah, nah.

Maybe I’m just on edge after what happened in B*ndi but the amount of “unofficial” (read illegal) fireworks going off in the Gong after NY is stressing me out. I don’t begrudge anyone any fun but if you can get such large scale “unofficial” fireworks so easily for NYE… I worry about worse motives.

Found a lovely little glade and “beach” down on the river.
A glade in the Upper Shoalhaven River. A patch of grass in front of the river, shaded by some willow trees.Sandstone rocks in the foreground and a pool in the stretch of river.

Sydney airport is up there with Paris CDG as one of the worst, to be fair. But… they both have trains… to make an easy escape from the horrors of those airports. Melbourne airport is *actually* good.

Melbourne airport is better than Sydney airport. There. I said it. (But you guys need a train!)

I literally went one place and overheard what I dreaded: awful opinions about what happened last night. I left before I shouted at them. We’re talking about people’s actual lives, it isn’t just the political battering ram for your conspiracist agenda.

The Lyonnaise waitress at our Christmas party came back twice to ask if I was sure I wasn’t French, as I spoke French without an accent. Now that’s a compliment I can take.

There’s not much better than blasting Italian pop from a car while zipping through the suburbs. There were a few people at bus stops who I’m sure wish they were with us.

A magpie just flew past me and swooped the cyclist who passed far too close to me. I’ve always liked the magpies.
