Tim Prestby @timprestby.bsky.social · 22/01/2026Ahhh the FT give it a go was referring to helping the white house. I understand! Thanks for the clarification. Yeah... that sounds about right 110
Tim Prestby @timprestby.bsky.social · 21/01/2026Genuinely confused, are you saying this because the FT didn't quote you in the article or use maps from your books? They seemed to have explained a pretty fundamental cartography concept well. 100

Tim Prestby @timprestby.bsky.social · 05/01/2026It's been 7 years since I first took my intro cartography class with @roberteroth.bsky.social. For readings, I enjoyed the GIS&T BoK entries from @ucgis.bsky.social. Things have come full circle. Stoked to share that my own BoK entry on "Map Interpretation" is now published doi.org/10.22224/gis...doi.orgUCGIS Bok Visualizer and SearchThis Body of Knowledge documents the domain of geographic information science and its associated technologies (GIS&T). Tim Prestby @timprestby.bsky.social · 14/02/2025Yesterday was a special day. I successfully passed my dissertation defense yesterday and have been given the unofficial title of "Dr. Prestby" until graduation in May. Tim Prestby @timprestby.bsky.social · 17/12/2024Does anyone know a great source for buying print maritime maps? Ideally from an individual cartographer/supporting a local business? I'd like to get one for a Christmas gift but don't know where to look. 210
Tim Prestby @timprestby.bsky.social · 11/12/2024Sorry was limited on characters so had to be concise at the expense of some details being omitted 100
Tim Prestby @timprestby.bsky.social · 11/12/2024@roberteroth.bsky.social brought you as a guest :) 110
Tim Prestby @timprestby.bsky.social · 11/12/2024It is a core cartographic memory of mine. Thankfully Daniel is great about documenting their design process through tutorials and other means, but the live in-person designing is a treat :). I blew my students' minds with holding shift to uniformly scale features in illustrator haha. 000
Tim Prestby @timprestby.bsky.social · 11/12/2024I went in to the class intent on making a map showing whether there were areas in San Francisco that had more 'tech bros' than families. We ended up leaning in to the 2024 trend of brat summer and making a more lighthearted project. Census data were single male households and couples households. 030
Tim Prestby @timprestby.bsky.social · 11/12/2024For my intro to cartography class, @pinakographos.bsky.social did a "Bob Ross Day" where they made a map live. It was invaluable to see how an expert approached the mapmaking process. I am teaching the intro cart class at PSU this year and did the same thing. My students and I had a blast 😄 (1/2) 3191
