Yeah but international blue helmeted soldiers on the streets of Tel Aviv, making sure the Israelis aren't killing people would be more effective.

Another seven Just Stop Oil supporters acquitted after slow march
As in previous Just Stop Oil trials for the same offence, defendants were not allowed to use any legal defences such as reasonable excuse.

Stop with the goddamned AI slop. Art is for artists, find another grift.

sorry but it's AI, the background elements are a giveaway.

Been caught out by these too, sometimes takes a few minutes before I realise 'oh, this is *entirely* slop' and immediately turn it off, downvote, ignore channel forever.

I think Lucas has always resented having to go to people to get things done - with CGI he was an undisciplined director, throwing everything and the kitchen sink at every scene rather than having some physically imposed restraint. With AI, it'll just be a total mess.

It's the people who have never appreciated actual work, talent, skill, effort and ownership who are so blithely excited by this. It seems incredible to me that there could be anybody who fails to understand why so many are upset but then, I've worked for such people so I shouldn't be surprised.

Why would they do this though, what's to gain wasting energy lighting up the sky with overpowered lighting?

"Make america great again" was always about moving in the _exact_ opposite direction. NASA was the best of the USA, the science and technology soft power that was like a Lighthouse for the world rather than the other glowing tower, the Miltary-industrial Eye of Sauron.

People aren't ashamed enough of dependence to a subscription service. I've know my entire life that you only want to be dependent upon people who love you (or at least who want the best for you), everything else is a vulnerability.

1. Yes, I know it's janky, I know it probably requires the energy output of a small town to operate but I also know that investors will love the idea and that will mean less money for new projects, more layoffs, more uncertainty, more dread.

I'm looking at Google's Genie right now and, as with most advances with genAI, I see nothing to be excited by, just existential dread. There is no joy to be had, no craft, no learning, no pride that can be associated with a dependence on a subscription service. They want to kill games.

It sounds like you're saying that because you want it to be true, not because there's any evidence that it is true. The creators of Blue Prince have *explicitly stated* that they didn't use AI so either you know their game better than they do or you're lying or they're lying. Which is it?

This is often awkward. I've worked on some big games but even with those, the probability of somebody having heard of them is inversely proportional to their connection with the games industry.

There is a gremlin that lives in all windows installations that feeds off the panicked energy generated from specifically that situation where you're in a meeting with a person whose opinion of you can shape your future, desperately trying to figure out why the audio has chosen today to fail.

I'd completely forgotten about this one! I have fond memories of driller (even ran on a spectrum!) and 'Total Eclipse' running on the same engine. Their games had a unique feel.

I'm not sure if/when trumpers will learn that their bloc routinely accuse others of what they do or plan to do. It's a childish form of rhetoric designed to deflect but it can be quite useful if you want to figure out what they really want. Pizzagate was an example. Epstein files now, please.

Then they pivoted to AI like every other corporate bastard because the essential *meanness* at its core appealed to them in a way that well crafted VR games never could. Stick them all on an Elon Musk rocket and fly it into the sun.

Meta didn't listen to game devs, the made a bunch of boring, soulless beige corporate chatrooms because that's what's in their souls and called it a revolution. Meanwhile, teams like 'Read at Dawn' were creating amazing games like 'Lone Echo' that showed what could be done.

That's exactly what I felt about it - I was genuinely excited by the push for VR - that was nothing but a good thing for the games industry and creative work but they fluffed it by spending billions doing what a game dev team could do in half the time for so much less.

Oh totally, I've had quite enough of Unity's boardroom shenanigans: they've burned through an awful lot of loyalty and goodwill, it makes me wonder if the c-suite there undersands the concepts. Tim Sweeney is a developer himself and has been there since the start, the difference is obvious.

I think the main thing is having a pressing need to do it - if somebody were to ask (ok, pay) me to do something in Unreal then I'd do a deep dive but so far I've really just tinkered. It's easier than Unity for getting nice visuals quickly though.

I've never got much further than exploring shaders and making test scenes in Unreal. It's on my list of things to learn but that list seems to grow faster than I can learn things.

It's a nice thought but the needs of shareholders and the needs of customers and employees are, in the long run, antithetical to each other. PLCs are a cancerous way to organise collective effort. They've managed to gain legal personhood but if a PLC has a personality, it's that of a psychopath.

It's not a hard message to understand and it's been shared many times but with less gross genAI, which is a tool the few (those who're rich enough to own data centres running plagiaristic genAI) use to disenfranchise the many (talented artists trying to earn a living).
