It's that time of year: the old SMU crew gathered at my place last night. We watched our alma mater crush Acadia at football, and then made a visit to the Split Crow. See you next year, boys! #HaliSky

Just watched Avengers Endgame: Encore in the theatre. This is a re-release of the last MCU Avengers film, with a couple of (very small) additional scenes to tease Avengers Doomsday, releasing at the end of the year. Fun to see it on the big screen again.

I finally finished the last season of The Boys. It ended with as much gore, foul language, and even more social commentary as before. No wonder the MAGA folks hated it: they leaned way in on skewering right-wing American politics and religion. Not remotely for everyone, but I enjoyed it.

Swedish power metal band Sabaton played Halifax today, and although I'm not really a fan my cousin and his grandson had an extra ticket, so along I went. And it was a fun show! All their songs are about military history so of course the stage had tanks.

I spent the last week in Las Vegas for work. After all that intensely dry heat, wild swings of freezing cold air conditioning, and enclosed planes, I needed to take some deep breaths of salt ocean air. #HaliSky

I'm visiting my folks. The number of birds has decreased, as has their frequency of feeding, but there are still 6-10 hanging around.

I finished watching Fallout season 2 a little while ago. I'm really enjoying this series too, and like the way they expanded the world this season. A good balance of sci-fi, grotesquerie, humour, relationships, revenge, and all delivered with a sense of fun, somehow.

It's been a few years since I ran the Not Since Moses Run, but I'm doing it again this year: a 10km run across the ocean floor at low tide in the place that has the highest tides in the world. And they have a fun shirt this year!

More animation: I caught up on Invincible seasons 3 and 4 recently. Great story, amazing character development, passable animation, and ludicrous violence. It's a lot of fun if you're a fan of superhero comics or adult sci-fi.

I finished the first season of Widow's Bay, and I quite enjoyed it. It's like Jaws + The Fog + Northern Exposure + The Shadow Over Innsmouth, but funny as well as spooky. And all anchored by an excellent performance from Matthew Rhys.

Saw Spider-Man: Brand New Day with my kid last night. Better than most of the recent Marvel bloat. Some good emotional notes, and cool action. Some fun crossover setup for Avengers: Doomsday. Nothing will match Raimi's first two Spider-Man films, but this was still quite good.

Season 9 of Rick & Morty released its final episode last night. This season was quality: funny, disturbing, and with lots of wacky high-concept sci-fi rigmarole. It's up there with seasons 1-3.

I just watched The Odyssey. It was fantastic. It was an epic telling of one of the original and greatest epics. He shot this film entirely on 70mm IMAX film, not digital. And Halifax has one of just 41 projectors in the world that can show that format, so I saw it here. It looked amazing.

I just finished the third season of Primal, which was released earlier this year. It's incredible, emotional, wildly fantastical, incredibly violent, adult animation. This, and Samurai Jack, show how visionary and talented Genndy Tartakovsky is. Epic in every sense. www.imdb.com/title/tt1033...

The Aisle24 self-serve always-open store on Robie St in Halifax has been closed since May due to a rent owing dispute. That's a shame. This store has saved me a couple of times.
