Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 24/09/2026The tram system in Prague is excellent. The PID app makes ticketing simple and Google sorts out journey planning. It just emphasises how far Leeds has been left behind in public transport provision. 030
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Enjoying the design vibe of the Prague Metro system 1162

Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 18/08/2026Big shout out to the great work of the Western Heights Preservation Society, & especially Phil & Selina for leading Sunday’s morning tour of the Drop Redoubt Dover. Fascinating stories and some great restoration work of an English Heritage property #dropredoubt #westernheights 010
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 06/08/2026There is a derelict former open air theatre in West Park Hull. The local Hull & District Society of Model Engineers run their trains around it. Would be great if the theatre could be restored. It suffered a fire some years ago. 110

Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 13/06/2026Fort Victoria - the oldest Victorian fortification on the Isle of Wight - in military use from 1852 to 1962. Only the casemates remain. #isleofwight #palmerstonforts 100
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 28/05/2026Fantastic concert by Kraftwerk yesterday in Stockton in the Art Deco shrine that is the Stockton Globe. Not often you go a concert to admire the OHL of a Trans-Europe-Express. 130
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 10/05/2026Beautiful morning on the Wensleydale Railway enjoying the Yorkshire Dales scenery and some of the projects we have supported over the years. Hares, rabbits and partridge in the fields, the woods carpeted by wild garlic. In the distance the sound of a Crompton approaching Leeming Bar. 010
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 09/05/2026Fish and chips at The Mermaid Cleethorpes Station yesterday - it used to be the first class waiting room. 000
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 26/04/2026One of my favourite pastimes is finding the foundries where drain covers came from on the maps on the National Library of Scotland website. This drain cover is from East Howdon on the north bank of the Tyne, a long way from Barnard Castle where it was made. 030
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 26/04/2026A walk down the Tyne yesterday from the city centre to North Shields - lots of reminders of Newcastle’s industrial past along the way. The Grade II listed 1837-39 Willington Viaduct which now carries the metro is particularly impressive. 050
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 19/04/2026I love Icelandic churches. This one is at Hellnar on the Snaefellsnes peninsula. It’s a style I’d call distressed Wes Anderson. At least the third building on this site, the others had to be replaced on account of the weather. 020
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 18/04/2026Reykolt in western Iceland - home of medieval saga writer Snorri Sturluson, a place where you realise that York and Iceland were culturally much closer in the past. 021
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 15/04/2026Hallgrimskirkja - Reykjavik’s amazing cathedral - only completed in 1986 and designed by architect Gudjon Samuelsson, I climbed the tower which gives all round views of the capital city. 030
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 08/04/2026Good to travel from Peterborough to Doncaster behind 91107. I remember the launch of it in February 2013 with its iconic Skyfall livery, one of the best. No sign of Naomie Harris today. 020
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 01/04/2026Had a wander round the site of the Royal Ordnance Factory at Newton Aycliffe this morning before my site visit to Heighington Station this morning - a few original buildings left but hard to tell it was ever there. 020
Reposted by Tim Hedley-JonesThe Railway Heritage Trust @railwayheritage.bsky.social · 31/03/2026My heart jumped when I saw the original weighbridge….and the original Pooley scales - and they were even gifted the last station master’s cap. 081

Highly recommend a visit. Dates from 1912 - used to be in Manchester Victoria offices, now in York. 030
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 16/03/2026Not seen one of these before, but perhaps I need to look underneath more footbridges. The 19th century Grade II* listed Midland Railway footbridge at Stamford and its 21st century Paint Identification Plate. 1573
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 12/03/2026Changing trains at Carnforth yesterday and spotted the base of a water crane or column, now long gone, at the north end of Platform 2 opposite the former Furness Railway Signal Box, one of my favourites. 613714
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 28/02/2026A reminder of British Rail days at March never rebranded to Railtrack or Network Rail. 020
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 28/02/2026Changed trains at March yesterday. I see the 1885 Station Hotel is to be demolished. Not listed, not part of the rail network and not the greatest architecture but a piece of a town’s character is lost when we demolish buildings like this. 031
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 15/02/2026Dead Power Station, photographed from Flockton, W Yorkshire, 31 miles away. 120
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 13/02/2026Some splendid non-railway relics of the past from a work-related visit to Ruabon. Had a spare hour before catching my train back to Chester. The cylindrical building was probably a parish lock-up according to Cadw. 020
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 12/02/2026Round the corner from Longton Station, Staffordshire is Grade II listed Boundary Pottery Works with a super weighbridge surviving under the arch. Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 01/02/2026Visited Hemingfield Colliery in South Yorkshire yesterday. A listed site, it is being restored by a team of volunteers and is well worth a visit, still retaining its concrete headstock & a number of early colliery buildings. It’s just up the valley from Elsecar Heritage Centre. 030
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 24/01/2026Foundations and floors of 19th century engineering sheds at York station - recently underneath the long stay car park and soon to be a multi-storey car park. 010

Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 02/12/2025Quick trip to Grade II listed Battersea Park Station this afternoon - C H Driver was the architect, very similar to Peckham Rye. Continuity Southern Railway survives in the drain covers on the street outside and platform up above. 030
Tim Hedley-Jones @timhedleyj.bsky.social · 30/11/2025Day out on the Hartlepool Headland and stopped off to see Grade II listed Throston Engine House, needing a bit of TLC, a very early piece of railway heritage built between 1838-40. #railwayheritage #hartlepool 120
