City of Tears is one of the most powerful pieces of game music I know. I can't ever improve on it, but still wanted to do my own version - combining my signature Celtic style with more recent Choir arrangements! www.youtube.com/watch?v=ay10... #hollowknight #cityoftears #gamemusic

I'm known as "the guy that does a good Breath of the Wild music impression", so I'd like to add to that that I do, in fact, know other games as well ;) . "Moon & Star" is a Heroes of Might & Magic-inspired track with elements from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind! youtu.be/b4y8wJDi0Ec

To celebrate Heroes of Might and Magic's return through @unfrozenofficial.bsky.social 's stellar work on Olden Era, I'm working on an album of original work inspired by Heroes soundtracks of the past! First up: a seafaring track feat. live accordion, whistle etc.. #gamedev #indiedev #homm #oldenera

Time for chill Zelda rock vibes for the Holidays with *Coffee With Kass*! I've been working on and off on this this past year to improve my groovin' and guitar noodlin' game. 😎 Tracks include Korok Forest, Ordon Village, Mipha's Theme and Mabe Village! 🌳 #zelda #chill #botw

Thank you! :D There's definitely a type of melody I like to write that's all over my work. It's restricting in a way, but on the other hand it's also nice to have a recognisable style.

Tim de Man @timdeman.bsky.social · 15/12/2025

Clear returning themes aim to make the region settle into the players' imagination. I'm very proud of the Cloudheim soundtrack - I put something of myself into every composition, so that it resonates emotionally with the audience to deepen their connection with the game.

Tim de Man @timdeman.bsky.social · 15/12/2025

As this is the theme song for the region, I wanted to tell a story about a rugged and tragic, but starkly beautiful environment. To make the track emotive without it becoming overpowering, I decided to make a slow-burn - slow tempo, long melodic lines, and gradual moments of tension & release.

Tim de Man @timdeman.bsky.social · 15/12/2025

For Cloudheim's desert region Dustlangr, I went for a wistful yet gently driven track, with a lead role for Spanish Guitar. This is a fragment of the full 5-minute track. I strive for compositions to not just fit, but also *elevate* the game scene.

This year in gaming has been nuts on Switch 2. First, DK Bananza was the best 3D Platformer since Galaxy. Then Silksong somehow managed to be of similar quality as Hollow Knight. And we're still getting Prime 4...!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=71RN...

For Guild Saga: Vanished Worlds, I went for a wistful and mellow take on my usual earworminess. "Resting Area" features just whistle, women's choir and harp. As this is a Western pixel art RPG with Japanese influences, it's been a cool exercise to straddle that line musically! #gamedev #indiedev

Silksong's soundtrack reminds me of the wistful classical inspired work I used to do before I got bitten by the Zelda bug back in 2016 (!). Might be a good avenue to pick up again to complement the Zelda stylings!

Mario Kart World's superpower is being able to turn tracks I never really cared about into complete and utter bangers. So I had to honour that by arranging their version of Wii's Rainbow Road for piano, with customary added nonsense! :D youtu.be/aja-gYq1WVk #nintendo #switch2 #mariokart

What I really appreciate about Mario Kart World's soundtrack is that they essentially treat the music like jazz standards - you get a fantastic opening statement of the theme, and after that they just let their solists rip. Amazing stuff 🥲.

id Software knows how to make a great oldschool shooter, but their change in narrative direction is puzzling. Doom 2016: awesome subversion of the relationship between player and narrative. 🤩 Doom Eternal: unrelated Warhammer fanfiction. 😅 Doom The Dark Ages: Save the princess. 😬

It's interesting to contrast with Avowed as well. I think Avowed shines in it's moment-to-moment gameplay in a unique way with it's kinetic and depthful combat and tasty parkour. Writing-wise, though, Shivering Isles is able to say a lot more in less words - and with more clarity.

000

Tim de Man @timdeman.bsky.social · 25/04/2025

The Oblivion remaster / visual remake is interesting, and fixes the two biggest reasons why I didn't click with it back in 2006: artstyle and gamefeel. The game has a lot more character now! Shivering Isles remains one of the best expansion packs ever made... Such a treat.
