It sure looks like the tempo of the modern economy is about to reach a significant downturn. In 2023, the US was the only economy in the world to achieve a soft landing and avoid a recession. Economic downturns are part of the ebb and flow of capitalism, but countries can mitigate them if prepared.

The daily lives of most Americans revolve around having a boss and doing exactly what the are told to do. The whole corporate hierarchy is built on authority and unilateralism. No surprise that many Americans are comfortable with authoritarians in government. It's how life is in the private sector.

There is a strong chance Trump’s numbers remain like this for the next four years. US satisfaction might actually go below 30% if the economy continues suffering from inflation woes. Possible modest spike around the LA Olympics 2028, but not much given that he will probably politicize the event.

The majority of the country opposes Trump's tariffs against Mexico and Canada. MAGAs strongly support the tariffs, even if it results in higher prices; evidence of his voters being cult-like, going along with anything he says. Imagine how they would feel if it had been Harris imposing the tariffs?

The Supreme Court approval rating remains underwater by 5 points. It saw a brief moment of positive net positive approval in 2023, but has otherwise been in the negative ever since overturning Roe v Wade. Currently, all three branches of government have negative approval ratings.

Even the pathetic little Marco Rubio realized the shameful spectacle before him, and like the coward he is, he could not bare himself to even look. But his eyes said it all. History will remember you literally stood still as the world your our forefather built for you burned to the ground.

A few years ago Musk berated ULA's Tory Bruno for using insiders and lobbyists to secure government contracts, arguing that it was anti-competitive against SpaceX. Ever a hypocrite, now Musk, from within the government itself, is canceling gov contracts and handing them over to Tesla and SpaceX.

After yielding all their power to Trump, the GOP Congress finally has time to delve into the important stuff, the JFK assassination. After this, they’re digging through old Ancient Aliens episodes to uncover the truth about the Mayan Astronaut and who really built the Pyramids of Giza.

As bad as things have gotten in the past month, it’ll get x10 worse over the next few years, not only in Washington but in the rest of the country. Why is happening now will begin affecting most Americans in profound ways by year’s end.

Support for #Ukraine in the US remains generally strong, though the constant Russian bleaching by Trump continues to take its toll. 53% of Americans support continued aid, with 22% saying we should do more. It appears most of the anti-Ukraine crowd are fueled by cynicism or are just trolling.

Reagan did run on a MAGA message. He literally MAGA from the oval office. I do agree that the charlatan-ery at display would’ve made him cringe, for he fashioned himself as a decent man. Now he gets to watch it all from a front row seat, for Trump hung his presidential portrait in the oval office.

The key part of the project 2025 playbook is ignoring court orders and freely exercising the president’s pardon powers. Musk will not comply with any order, knowing the president will pardon anything he does. The MAGA crowd also knows this, as evidenced by the pardoning of Jan6 rioters.

The proposal from Trump for the US to forcefully resettle millions of Palestinians out of the Gaza will be remembered as one of the country’s most shameful international acts. It’s right there atrocities in Vietnam and the nuclear bombing of Japan in WW2.

USMCA = United States, Mexico and Canada Agreement, which replaced NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) in 2018 and ratified in 2020 by congress. Trump is trying to throw away the agreement signed just 4 years ago… by Trump himself!

I just watched Napoleon from Ridley Scott. The absurdity displayed made the film come across almost as a comedy. I asked myself while watching “how did the French ruling class go along with this guy’s hubris and nonsense?” …then realizing the US is living through same thing today.

#Deepseek is a game changer because it doesnt need a giant computing cloud. It can think and reason locally on your computer, so something like a LLM Siri could work natively on your device. Instead of a “sentient” central server, we are potentially going to see millions of sentient mobile devices.

#Target and all these big brands moving away from DEI initiatives is as reactionary to the cultural climate as it was when the programs were first instituted years ago. No corporation believes in DEI, any more than they believe in gay rights etc. It has always been just a PR and marketing tool.

What will make the political pendulum swing harder left over the next 2 years will be a be an endless string of bad dishes being served to the American people. With Hegseth, Trump has brought in an expert poison toxicologist to the kitchen.

The Flash TV show ran for 9 seasons, along with multiple cross overs with other CW shows. It outlasted the original Arrowverse show, Arrow, which ran for 8 seasons. Ironically, it also featured a cross over cameo from Ezra Miller (pictured).

Statistic of the Day: Mortgage rates are about average, historically speaking. The issue here are not the rates, but broader affordability of anything across the US economy. Americans are notorious for getting themselves into situation that they cannot afford, and banks have been happy to oblige.

The panic about these drone sightings is more than a little overboard. If the responsible party had any malicious or covert intent, they surely wouldn't be as bright as a xmas tree. Unless... the responsible party doesn't understand his nuance. ...because it is a recently-conscious AI.

Obama’s courtship of Collins left progressives disillusioned: a public option was dropped to appease a senator who ultimately said no. The ACA Collins’ feigned support and Obama’s naïveté costs Democrats, and the country, perhaps the only chance to have affordable publicly-funded healthcare.

On March 23 the ACA passed without a single Republican vote. Despite Obama sacrificing the public option and addressing Maine-specific concerns, Collins voted no. She cited process complaints, cost concerns, and partisanship—leaving Obama with a hollow bipartisan effort.

Collins engaged in weeks of negotiations, pressing for provisions like rural healthcare funding and Medicaid cost control. Obama made compromises, hoping Collins’ “constructive tone” signaled she could be won over. But as the vote neared, her skepticism only grew louder.

Dropping the public option—a progressive cornerstone—was no small move. Obama calculated it would placate moderates like Collins and conservative Democrats like Joe Lieberman. The hope? To secure her yes vote for a bill expanding coverage while avoiding political collapse.
