Transcript from Sandy and Nora Talk Politics podcast yesterday where @nolore.bsky.social says something I’ve been saying for months. It’s so nice when smart people affirm what I’ve been saying in conversations with tradespeople.

I read enough of the history to know that every single generation, people think they are the last one. People never believe that there's going to be anything after them. And that's kind of one of the hallmarks of the shortsighted ways that the West especially exists.

There are many, many cultures who don't believe that they're the final generation and that actually believe that they need to steward the land and the earth and everything else for future generations, that things should be done, decisions should be made in the mindset of future generations.
But capitalism doesn't allow us to think like that. Capitalism has to make us believe we have to use everything we can before we're all wiped out. And of course, there's been technological advancements that have made it possible to think we might be wiped out.

I mean, not to ignore the fact that things like smallpox could and did wipe out lots of people in the 1800s and earlier. But we have nuclear weapons, and so with a push of a button, we can all die.
This has been the case for 60 and 70 years now.
And I find this apocalyptic line very stupid. It's very, very, very stupid, because the threat posed by Al is not that you and me are going to be dead within a year.
That's not the threat that AI poses.

You don’t see fascism in the American government when “your” party does nothing to undo the fascist work of the other party when they have the power? That’s a you problem not a me problem. Maybe you need to learn what fascism means and actually examine what your party has been doing.

Cuba is more democratic than you have ever known.

Cuba rewrote their constitution by getting everyone in the country together in groups of 50 to write it.
They took what they wrote to representatives who collaborated and collated everything and sent the resulting draft to the groups of fifty who offered edits, which went back up and down and up and down. 99% of their population wrote their constitution. That's democracy. What you have in US is 420 democracy. Every 4 years you spend 20 minutes deciding which capitalist puppet will represent you.

The same is true of leftist solidarity. You can be a communist or an anarchist or a Mennonite and not compromise your values away. We have one goal we are pressing towards, and one common problem of capitalism/colonialism.

Compromises are lose-lose scenarios. When you compromise you are both giving up a part of your own desires. Good marriages are partnerships where both parties collaborate towards the same goals. It is a hope for the future that keeps us together not dwelling on the compromises of the past because there are none.

Complete nonsense. Stalin was fighting fascists in Spain and Japan for years and trying to get the allies together to fight against Nazi Germany for almost a decade leading up to WW2. The Axis powers called themselves the Anti-communist international (anticomintern).

I don’t know who that is but when I saw this I just know that it’s true. Everyone that people hate these days is a big scary evil capitalist and they are convinced that they’re commies. The WEF is literally a gathering of capitalists and these low information voters think it’s communism.
