Made a meat pie floater from the Discworld book The Last Continent with the kids, as a fun thing to do on a weekend. I didn't realise until after it's a real Adelaide regional speciality, not fictional

Nice! Not been to Milan, but when I do I'll be able to say it's the Leeds of Northern Italy. Not sure where is the Milan of the Midlands though...

Was up in Leeds for asking for research money the other week. I'd been past on the train, but I'd not realised how grand Leeds city centre is. A big block seems to have escaped bombs and 60s town planners. Nice city, lucky Yorkshire people!

West Smethwick Park has been done up nicely. The Chance memorial is cool, you can still see the old Chance glass works from the canal or motorway, they made decorative patterned glass for e.g. Doors for around the world. Only annoying thing is the litter in the park, UK is grubby...

Admin can be really helpful, saving academics' time and making them effective by helping managing budgets, grant applications, HR for students and fellows, the actual admin. Loss of good admin people will affect academics too.

Found this 94-year-old copy of The Architectural Review at last weekend’s garage safari in Kingsdown. It’s focused on the BBC’s Broadcasting House in London and contains some great photos and adverts. Will share some in this thread and more over the days ahead 🧵

Looking for a lightswitch in a lecture theatre today, came across some cool features. Something about all this old technology wired up, but unusable now. One day maybe I'll have a @wowhaus.bsky.social with wood panelling and cool switches and plugs.

Kids playing in the stream at Leasowes. Magical place, just hidden down from roads and DIY stores. Thomas Jefferson visited when a formal garden said: 'Shenstone's Leasowes is the simplest and plainest, but the most rural of all. I saw no spot so small that exhibited such a variety of beauties'
