My understanding (from a previous life as a barista) is... A flat white is more like a strong latte with less foamed milk. An Americano is espresso in water, which can have milk or cream added to it in about the same amount as you would for instant coffee or a cup of tea.

There was a great 2nd hand bookshop (Libreria Mondo) right next to my hotel as well, so I lost an afternoon in there... #Books #Livros #Lisboa #Lisbon #Portugal #Bibliophile #bookshop
Bookshelves full of second hand books). Above are old pictures, antique figurines and busts, plus a small ornate reading lamp.Three walls all lined from floor to ceiling with second hand books of all colours, arranged across dark wooden shelves. A small footstool can be seen on the faded carpet at the bottom of the picture.Close up of faded second books lined along a dark wooden shelf. The titles are written in white against a brownish yellow background, with small black illustrations underneath.

We created gyms because modern day work no
longer required physical activity. Without exercise,
our muscles atrophy.
I predict we'll need gyms for our brains too, once Al
starts doing our knowledge work.

I used to play fundraising concerts for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. The threshold for passing is really high, meaning the costs of training are high too. I'm amazed at the discipline required in the dogs which pass training. Very clever (and very good) dogs.

This is insane. Harassing, attacking and (in at least one case) hospitalising volunteers for saving lives at sea is disgusting, dangerous and frankly unpatriotic behaviour.

My favourite part is how both robots simply keep running until they hit a crash mat and fall over (presumably the designers saved on weight by not bothering to include any mechanism for braking). This isn't a robot 'running better than a human'.

Back in 2003, I saw ZZ Top on tour, and on great form. It remains one of the best concerts I've ever attended. I love this band. No one was too flash, but together they made three guys sound like five. R.I.P., Frank Lee Beard (1949-2026). www.theguardian.com/music/2026/a...

One line from this sums up the issue many had with Starmer, and expect to repeat with Burnham, sooner or later: "Progressive voters combined to throw the Tories out, only for Labour to alienate its own supporters in a doomed attempt to win the backing of people who would never vote for it."

We might as well reduce the UK's parliamentary terms to 2.5 years, given that that's roughly the shelf life of a Prime Minister nowadays. May & Johnson: about 3 years; Truss: 3 about minutes; Sunak: less than 2 years; Starmer: just over 2 years; And Burnham? I guess the media haven't decided yet.

It should be patently obvious to anyone who knows even a basic summary of the events surrounding the VIP lane was an ill-advised idea which almost immediately, predictably, succumbed to corruption. No amount of yachts could make me feel ok about enriching myself while others died as a consequence.

After Antonio Salazar suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and emerged from a month-long coma, his circle didn't tell him he'd been removed from power. Instead, he spent almost two years 'ruling' Portugal from bed. They even made fake newspapers referencing the 'policies' he came up with. Just saying...

What SHOULD happen: The folk of Clacton (a place Farage barely visits and done absolutely no work for as an MP) boot him off. What probably WILL happen: all news outlets run 24/7 coverage, effectively giving Farage a permanent party broadcast, and the racists come out in force to vote him back in.

I agree the current one needs changing. It's a dirge. The trouble is the other likely contenters speak of colonial expansion (Land of Hope & Glory) or are a bit to militaristic (I Vow To Thee My Country). Perhaps we should pivot in a more genteel direction and repurpose the tune from Postman Pat.

I'm no Starmer defenders, but whoever comes next will not improve things in UK politics. All Labour have achieved from any of this is making themselves look like the Tories: infighting, MPs putting career before public service and a rolling succession of PMs - all the things we voted out in 2024.

The most dangerous thing about Trump is the people around him doing nothing to rein him in. The fact that his team haven't stepped in (or taken his phone away) show us that they want him to say the things he's saying. Even after Trump is gone, the USA may still continue its descent into fascism.

A jogger barged into me on Lambeth Bridge a few years ago - except it was he who bounced off (I was heavier then) then barked out something offensive at me while continuing to run. I'm suggesting it was the same guy. I just assumed joggers in Central London all get like this (sick of the crowds).

This point has been made by a few people and I completely agree. Children are taught about social media and how to spot misinformation online in a way that your boomer dad never has - but it's the elder generation calling the shots because they create the most revenue for tech companies.
