Clearly the world should have heeded that movie's warnings about the arrogant harmful actions of an amateur outsider (a brash young white male) who thinks that it's just solving problems what counts in mathematics, and provides his proofs without explanations www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ViP...

That could be. (I seem to recall HF being quite proud about their cybersecurity leadership when they introduced the safetensors format in 2022-23. Oh well)

Can you say more about why you consider, say, finding and exploiting several novel CVEs in JFrog Artifactory to be on the same level as finding out that the Wi-Fi password is "wifi"?

Ramanujan's letters, Perelman's preprints and the original 4-color proof were likewise "not giving us what we need"; all these required substantial follow-up work "for the purposes of pushing limits of understanding". One of the reasons why the statement's accusatory stance is quite hypocritical.

Or, the dedicated lecturer who has successfully introduced generations of grad students to advanced mathematical concepts, but ranks very low on the academic pole that this statement's 25 signatories sit on the very top of.

The scholar who is a brilliant researcher with an impressive publication record but a lousy lecturer and whose PhD students struggle to get meaningful support from him is an archetype of academia: bsky.app/profile/phdc... Tao et al. want us to believe that their field is different in that regard.

Tilman Bayer @tilmanbayer.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I'm ready to believe that @teorth.bsky.social himself is exemplary in that regard. But his field's own misalignment between research and teaching incentives might be a more fundamental one than the one decried in this statement.

Indeed. Another good take: bsky.app/profile/josh... (e.g. pointing to the only previous Millennium Prize solution announcement, by Perelman, who wasn't super integrated with "the mathematical community" either, and left the "proper writeup" to others as well - just like those super evil AI bros)

Nitpicking seems to be a general problem with LLM fact checking (I also encountered it in this experiment on finding errors in top-rated Wikipedia articles: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikiped... ). But one would think it can be avoided by better prompting, or in your case rewording the bounty criteria?
