I find this kind of error interesting. There are plenty of punctuation edge cases, but this stuff should be straightforward for an automated checker, surely?

I do like that the article raises the consultant plague that is feeding on most of Australia’s public institutions. No one seems brave enough to make their own decisions.

Does it go into the massive admin bloat, huge executive wages, and ever increasing fees despite cost efficiencies from digital delivery?

Shoebridge’s Ukrainian stance is nonsensical and awful. I struggled to see why you described it as grievance politics in the article, beyond a desire to connect it to other criticism. Is that you are saying grievance politics is synonymous with simplistic politics?

Okay, so it’s not my best story, but I needed to come up with it in one minute as the school readers hadn’t been changed. #parenting #instantstory #amwriting
The Giant Carrot
One day, a child at school left her lunch in a locker.
Everyone forgot about it. The sandwich grew mould. The sultanas went hard.
But the carrot was different. It grew larger and larger during the school holidays. When the children returned to school, the Carrot had grown arms, legs, and a face with a mouth full of sharp teeth.
It roared and chased the children around the classroom. Was it going to eat them all? The class pet, a rabbit, leapt to the rescue! The bunny chomped on the carrot until it was no more.
The children cheered. The end.

It's my birthday!!! If you would be willing to share my art to help me celebrate another year of being on the Earth, I'd appreciate it greatly!
Fullbody art of Samira, one of my dnd ocs. She is standing, looking at the viewer with her head tilted up. On her face, chest, arms, and exposed right hip she has red tattoos. She is wearing an outfit of mostly red, orange, and purplish tones. Her red pants are loose and draped in the style of dhoti trousers, and the maroon armor she's wearing is reminiscent of a coat of a thousand nails (Chilta hazar masha). Her reddish orange dupatta has patterns of waves and fire. She wears a corset-style belt and a more traditional belt over top, with a loop that connects her compass. In her right hand is a talwar with a gold hilt, in her left hand is a trident dagger. She also has several earrings on her exposed left ear. Her white hair is shorn short on the left side.A close-up of recent art of Favor. She has light aqua skin and teal hair and clothing. Her expression and posture are wary, and she wears a sword and shield on her back.Lena, an aasimar woman with tan skin wearing a red tabard with a red heart and steel armor with red roses

Maybe people are using too broad a brush, but I don’t think it’s wrong for people to have a serious concern with the overall tax avoidance of big companies/multinationals.

Robert Tillsley (Author) @tillsley.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Companies need a social license to operate. They have access to lawyers, tax specialists, and offshore arrangements like transfer pricing to minimise or avoid tax. I think ‘It’s complicated’ is showing that they are failing to maintain that license. The status quo isn’t working.

Surely, the opaqueness of how companies can be a decade into paying no tax creates a reasonable distrust, even knowing the basics?

Robert Tillsley (Author) @tillsley.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
Mining companies often have big capital outlays upfront, so no tax to pay for a while. But i think people reasonably wonder whether they ever pay much. Elsewhere, the Australian newspaper seem to endlessly have no tax to pay. The article doesn’t help, but distrust is reasonable.

I went to an economics conference when studying, and, to me, her views seemed so out of touch and just awful. Given how much the other economists were focused on making things better, the contrast was clear.

It wouldn’t be the top of my list of concerns given it’s been the standard tactic for years right around the country, and I suspect most people know it for what it is. But I do agree that the endless posturing is frustrating. Our political-journalism ecosystem results in silly games.
