#ECTE2025 The first 2 keynotes by José Iriarte and Nina Witteveen were absolutely great, they were talking about the ecological legacy and the impact past populations had on the vegetation in the Amazon basin and the Guiana Shield (Suriname in particular). 🌾🌿🌴🔥🌽🍌🏺🌎

🥺that was for sure a brave doggy 💗 Mummy of a dog, Cairo Museum
Mummy of a dog, seen from the side. The dog is standing, ears down and tail curved up.Detail of the face of the dog.Detail of the butt and tail. The sign says: this dog was probably used as hunting dog, and us related to a Saluki. The owner of this dog is still unknown since neither an inscription nor a human mummy accompanied the burial. However, it is assumed to be the pet of either Amenhotep II or Horemheb, whose tombs are nearby.

I like when charcoals show very specific anatomical features that make them easy to identify: eg. vessels in tangential bands, very large rays. Here is a Proteaceae, Faurea rochetiana 🤓 #EthiopianWood #Anthracology

Atomic mushrooms? Nope, this is the wood (charcoal) anatomy of Neea sp. (Nyctaginaceae) in transverse section. The large 'holes' correspond to the included phloem and the smaller ones below are vessels. #Anthracology #WoodAnatomy #Charcoal
