If you feel as if you keep wearing the same clothes over and over again, you might not be imagining it. Simple trick for some quantitative data: turn the hangers backward when you've worn something. If it's still backwards next season, well, you have your answer. 🙃

That spare-cable drawer grows because every dead lead seems like it might be useful someday. That day usually never comes though. Keep one of each connector you still own a device for, and recycle the rest! 🔌

Apartment kitchen tip that totally helped me as a renter: tension rods for deep cabinets. Trays and cutting boards stand in vertical slots instead of collapsing into one loud pile. Ace. And super cheap on Amazon. tidymalism.com/apartment-kitchen-st…

A zen bedroom makeover doesn't need a huge shopping haul. Clear one surface, switch up the bedding, and put out a few things you love where you can see them. Clearing clutter off the nightstand does wonders, too! tidymalism.com/zen-bedroom-ideas-on…

If every week feels identical, I’m not sure another productivity system is the answer. I suspect Tuesday just needs to stop looking exactly like Monday

Doomscrollig much? Try one screen-free stretch this week and just leave the phone in another room for awhile. It’s easier to stick with when the app isn’t already in your hand 🤳

Overlooked clutter magnet: the car. Receipts, spare chargers, snack wrappers, “I’ll deal with it later” bags. Same job as the front hallway, just on wheels. 😅 tidymalism.com/most-overlooked-area…

One tidy habit to make stick: wash the dishes or put them in the dishwasher before they pile up. Same sink, less ewwww, and you won't be staring at last night’s greasy pans at breakfast. tidymalism.com/10-tidy-habits

My increasingly sophisticated anti-time-flying strategy is to occasionally take a different street home. Middle age is wild.

My idea of luxury has shifted considerably over time. In the past it was to have more and more space. Nowadays it's having fewer things inside the space that demand my attention.

One strange part of getting older is that convenience starts feeling more luxurious than possessions

Did an anti-moth patrol of the wardrobe again. Nothing makes you feel like the glamorous heroine of your own life quite like wielding cedar blocks and lavender spray

Decluttering advice tends to assume you are emotionally attached to your possessions. Sometimes I’m just too lazy to haul them over to the donation centre. An important distinction!

One tiny way to make life feel less like Groundhog Day: Do something you’ve never done before. It doesn’t have to involve skydiving. Try the weird vegetable. Take a different route home. Talk to a stranger.

We have somehow managed to turn rest into yet another project. Morning routine. Wellness routine. Sleep optimisation hacks. Yadda yadda. Perhaps occasionally lying on the sofa like a Victorian invalid is enough.

Doomscrolling is quite a remarkable activity. You start by checking one thing. Forty minutes later you know about a coup, a housing crash, three AI startups and somebody’s kitchen renovation in Ohio. All while your own laundry remains unfolded.

People love complicated decluttering systems. I remain fond of a highly technical method called: Take bag. Put unwanted things in bag. Remove bag from house. 💁🏻‍♀️

Childhood summers felt endless because everything was new. Adult years disappear because Thursday looks suspiciously like the previous 147 Thursdays. I’ve started deliberately adding small firsts to otherwise ordinary days. Anything to give the brain something new to file.

A surprisingly useful measure of clutter is how much stuff you have to move before somebody can come paint a wall. Ask me how I know. 😉

You know your kitchen org system has failed when you open the Tupperware cupboard and it appears to have developed its own ecosystem.

Home ownership is mostly discovering new objects that require maintenance. Today: baseboards. Tomorrow: apparently some sealant I have never heard of.

The most successful organising project I did so far this year prob had nothing to do with cupboards. I started meal prepping on Sundays. Turns out removing “what the hell am I eating tonight?” from five weekdays frees up a surprising amount of brain!

Somewhere in between “I should repaint the flat” and actually calling a painter, I considered moving house instead. This pretty much sums up my relationship with home maintenance.
