I really had a problem with how characters were handled. That’s not to say they didn’t do a good job! I think they nailed their core traits. Alas, I’m spoiled with the detail from the novel, which set my expectations high and concrete. I do wonder what the theater-only folks think of them though.

I remember it having the screen equivalent of “wide shot, both characters hang their heads in a silent solemnness, MC narrates.” I think an apt comparison is with that scene and Ryland “commending his crew to the stars.”

3) Some moments in the film also felt rushed or just tacked-on commentary. Examples: the radiation exposure discussion, Rocky’s abilities, the ending. I’m especially torn about the radiation one - that is a really depressing moment.

2) I didn’t exactly like how they portrayed Rocky in the film when compared to the book. This one is more of a nitpick, because an adaptation like this has to be faster-paced. While it advances the story beats quicker, it does so at the consequence of Rocky’s thoughtfulness and the two’s unease.

It does have its problems though. I can think of about three.. 1) I don’t think the deceased crew members had much character, other than that send-off at the beginning and the flashbacks, where they’re just kind-of “noddy-smiley-faces” imo.

The movie does a good job capturing those moments where “reality hits.” It’s also nice to see the set-pieces and characters on the big screen! A very pretty film, I must say! And an emotional one, hooooly, I was a mess.

Even then, I found a comfort in its’ pages. To me, it emphasizes the struggles of identity. It sorta asks: “When faced with a problem, who do you become?” That’s not really something you consciously think about in that specific moment, but you reflect on it later.

TW: bite mark i’ve recently had a really fun time bringing blacklights to hotels! mainly just to see where to avoid stepping… but every time i’ve booked a room with a couch, there has always been some sus stains on them first time i’ve seen a whole ass bite mark with median tongue groove though :/

a blacklight shined at the edge of a hotel couch cushion. there is a greenish-yellow stain that resembles an open mouth. the teeth marks encircle another stain that seems to be from the tongue, pressed on the couch cushion for a long period of time - leaving a clear imprint of the medial groove.

these cushions were very rigid, so i still do not understand how they got this angle and clarity.

i’m also not a dentist, so i can’t tell if the direction of the bite is from the angle of this photo, or the other way around.

yes, i checked the other cushion.
yes, i sat on the cleaner side.
no, it was not the dirtiest couch/room i’ve seen.

malicious intent has yet to be determined.
