It had a Griffin on it, so it’s been unfairly panned and derided largely ever since. People’s aversion to Vauxhall baffles me, especially as in comparison to its main competitors, it performed well.

Always liked the look, drove one back when I had a 1.3 Mk2 Astra worth about £70. It was barely quicker and handled about the same. I felt so deflated. Same time I drove a Mk2 Astra SXi, that was a lovely thing compared to the Escort.
