14 years ago, China's revision of its air quality standard was a global headline, a watershed moment for the country's public health and energy transition. The recent update of that standard was greeted with little fanfare in and outside the country. insearchofgreenchina.com/why-is-china...

Why is China’s new air quality standard the biggest non-news in the world today?
For the first time in fourteen years, China has revised its air quality standards, introducing more stringent criteria for fine particulate matter (PM2.5). According to the new guidelines, cities will only achieve Class II air quality status if their annual mean PM2.5 concentration remains below 25μg/m3, compared to the previous threshold of 35μg/m3. The implementation […]

Upon entering the wooden house of a Blang family, one is immediately struck by the presence of enormous, dried seed pods suspended from the beams. Often as large as a child’s arm, these pods originate...

China's waste-to-energy incineration facilities collectively emit 100 million tons of CO2 a year and is yet considered a "carbon saving" industry encouraged to expand to the point of overcapacity (not enough garbage to be burned). Does this make sense? insearchofgreenchina.com/solid-waste-...

Solid waste incineration: from devil to hero?
There are not enough garbages to be burned by the country’s fleet of Waste-to-Energy (WTE) incinerators, a viral video circulating on Chinese social media proudly declared recently. The high-temperatu...
