It's a mite hot out for armor, so I'm not taking on any jobs this season.

I can raise the dead. I can throw fireballs. And, among my lesser-known talents, I can put dry pasta in my mouth and pour boiling water straight into it. Student life necessitates these things, at times.

Yrjixtilex Mehrzad. Er, the long word is the clan name. Just call me Mehrzad. The pleasure's mine. Initially, I was going to be a diviner too. I went to the school of Augury. Seers swim in gold when a rich man wants to see the future.

As it's not like he has eyebrows to raise, Mehrzad tilts his head to express confusion. Does it make more sense at 45 degrees? "...You okay, little half-elf?"

I'd like to say no. Otherwise I'd have to think about how deep I myself am in this rabbit hole. I'm gonna go ahead and guess you're some sort of diviner? I can picture you pondering an orb to see the future.

I'm of the Yrjixtilex. And if you think my clan name is lengthy, be glad I am not a Verthisathurgiesh.

"Eh, I've heard it all before. Long story short, we're bipedal humanoids whose ancestors hatched from the eggs of true dragons and differentiated into what we are today after a lengthy evolutionary process. I'm assuming you're a human. I'm not educated well enough to differentiate among them."

It definitely is a symptom of how people who pursue the field tend to be. 'Tis as if every last one of them is under the impression that they're either the next Elminster, or a failure. That said, you sound like you know a fair bit about my field of work. That's curious.

He clears his throat. "Ahem. The correct term would be 'dragonborn' in the common tongue, 'Strixiki' in typical Draconic or if you speak the Tymanchebar dialect— which I do— Vayemniri. Little to no relation to true dragons."

That is not to say I was a wizardry student devoid of ambition— quite the contrary! They were simply... over-competitive. As if their worth depended entirely on their studies, and how well they represented the families they were of.
