Does accepting animate/inanimate pooltoys require a belief in the existence of a "soul", a belief that life/consciousness cannot be fully explained by biochemical action?

Or require at least a willingness to accept that souls could exist?

A possible alternate explanation could be that pooltoys are organisms formed by a thin layer of cellular tissue—possibly given structure by chitin or keratin—encasing a sac-lice void

Where neural processing is distributed throughout the creature, and not concentrated in a singular "brain"

NWS, whose system I more prefer for day-planning, reports its forecasts in 12-hour, “6-to-6” chunks: daytime forecasts are for the 6 AM–6 PM period and nighttime for the 6 PM–6 AM period. It’s just unfortunate that their weather forecasts on weather.gov are not as easy to get to on my smartphone. 😞

The National Weather Service’s weather forecast for my local area. An “Extended Forecast” is shown with a sequence if pictures to summarize the weather over the next 4 days and nights; a caption beneath each picture reports the corresponding highs or lows and explains the picture’s meaning. Beneath the “Extended Forecast” panel is a “Detailed Forecast” panel, where more information for each day and night is given in text only.

For example, for today, the extended forecast shows a picture of a sunny sky with a caption to explain that the high will be 38 °F with sunny skies. The corresponding detailed forecast includes this information and further provides that wind will blow out of the “northwest at 7 to 11 mph” (10 to 18 km/h).

Similarly, the picture for tonight is split vertically to show changing conditions as the night will progress. The left half shows a picture of moonlit clouds; the right half shows snowflakes falling and the text “20%”. The caption below the picture states the overnight low will be 25 °F with “Mostly Cloudy then Slight Chance Snow”. The corresponding detailed forecast further explains that snow may start around 2AM and could be accompanied by a 5 mph wind out of the south. “Chance of precipitation is 20%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.”

By reporting the highs and lows for a midnight-to-midnight period, it loses some utility required for me to plan my day and clothing situation. The summary, week-at-a-glance view shows only the forecasted highs and lows; I would have to expand the day’s forecast for an hourly breakdown.

A 10-day weather forecast for my area: forecasted highs in the mid-30s °F and forecasted lows around 20°. Weather will be cloudy most days, with a good chance for snow on the 4th day ahead.

It’s worth highlighting that the temperature forecast shows only highs and lows, but not when those highs and lows are expected to occur; I would have to tap on the specific day to see the hourly breakdown.

Today’s inconsequential gripe: how the Apple Weather app reports daily highs and lows While it’s not wrong, it goes against the “daytime highs” and “overnight lows” system that the National Weather Service (NWS) reports and TV forecasters commonly use 🧵/ 6

Ran across a cute mailbox while roaming around streetview, and I couldn't not doodle it

A few sketches inspired by a heron-adorned mailbox.

What better way to stay warm over this cold and snowy winter than by going plush? 🎨 Plush TF YCH by RemyWolf (FA)

A partial transformation of Of-Deepest-Thunder (an argonian) into a stuffed-animal (or “plush”) version of itself. Most of the torso, right leg, and left arm has already transformed, with the other limbs and tail showing more partial changes. Thunder’s mouth has already changed into a fabric smile, while the rest of its blushing face and horns still need to change. The artist’s watermark (RemyWolf) is stamped in the lower left corner.
