“I have… considered it,” Viktor admits. He had turned the thought over in his head until its edges were frayed and its colors faded. Jayce seeing him turned into a vessel for evolution and sticking by his side all the same. Looking at Viktor, his body, his hubris, and saying There’s beauty and Together and I missed you. Too hopelessly perfect to be real. “But no. I don’t think this is a version of you my mind could conjure.”

Jayce looks like he doesn’t quite know how to respond to that — if he should be touched, flattered or deeply offended. Instead, he quips: “You were supposed to say ‘You are always a vision, Jayce’. I set it up for you and everything.”

The accent is pretty accurate, he can’t help but notice. Not mocking. It reeks of warmth. Viktor doesn’t laugh, but a quiet relief settles over him—Jayce doesn’t sound like the appeasing, prompting visions that plagued him of Sky.

“Your shoulders couldn’t handle the weight if your head got any bigger,” he shoots back, letting the teasing words roll off his tongue, trying to figure out the taste of them.

Jayce grins in response. “I’ll have you know I have pretty strong shoulders.”
