the reason why "you just like it because of nostalgia" is so aggravating is because on the internet the person defending resident evil 1 is most likely 17 and the one arguing against it is probably 41

Someone just reblogged this on tumblr with this tag and I just fucking died I've been on this shit for over a decade and it's only getting worse

kayinnasaki

written about this before but whatever.

Videogames as an artform have a problem with nostalgia. Not that people shouldn’t have nostalgia. Or that games shouldn’t draw from the past. But instead the weight we give to nostalgia.

When people go back to enjoy old games, we assume it’s a nostalgia thing. Do people assume that with books? Or movies? Or music? People certainly do go back in time with those mediums for nostalgia! It happens! I know when my sister is listening to certain cheesy old boyband pop or punk she’s often having a musical nostalgia trip! That’s cool! But we still don’t ASSUME, CONSTANTLY thats why people go back to stuff.

People like old stuff because it’s cool and interesting. It’s historic. People go watch Metropolis still, but how many people alive could even be nostalgic for a movie like that?

I almost want to see the word Nostalgia excised from discussions about video games – not because nostalgia is bad but because we over use it to the point where it’s actually harmful I think.

I mean I made IWBTG and am making an NES style game right now and even for me, the obsession with ‘nostalgia’ seems crazy.

Old stuff is cool. I know this because I see a lot of you kids on my tumblr feed talking about games I know you didn’t grow up with. It’s like finding your parents record or CD collection. Thinking the primary greatness of old games is bringing back memories of eating cereal and playing games on a saturday morning is a great injustice, even if those memories for some are perfectly worthwhile things.

The video and the comments conjure an image of D&D having once been the "fighter in the front, caster in the back, everyone stays in their lane" and 5e "ruined it" with hybridization and magic feats It's very funny to see people saying martials used to be good and then citing their NWN weapon master

I think it sucks that Yuzu got so much hate just because players couldn't handle the fact that she had one of the more realistic reactions to what was going down in the game's story We like Yoohoo in this household

A redraw of a portrait I made around 10–15 years ago. I wanted to see how my understanding of anatomy, color theory, lighting and rendering improved. Ivelios Laucion Jallei, my half-elf aasimar rogue/wizard from an old D&D RP server for Neverwinter Nights. #art #ocsky #dnd #dndcharacter #ArtRedraw

Digital portrait of my OC, Ivelios Laucion Jallei, a half-elf aasimar.
He is looking at a viewer with a confident, subtle smile. He has long, slightly wavy golden-blond hair framing a sharp visage, light skin, and silver-gray eyes. He is wearing a dark grayish-teal hooded cloak pulled over his head, and pinned with a small ornate circular brooch. He gently holds a polished rapier upright across his chest with a black fingerless-gloved hand, showing a royal blue sleeve with silver details at the cuff.

Canto X was ultimately fun but I managed to spend 20 minutes on the final puzzle thinking you are only allowed to punch and not grab and thought KJH decided to also channel Bennett Foddy to amplify the frustration theme they had going In my defense it was 4 AM

Have I played “Control Resonant”? Sorry…I’m too busy reading the story of a man who “Controls Rocinante”…that’s right, Miguel Cervantes’ immortal tale “Don Quixote de La Mancha”. So you enjoy your strange “Federal Bureau”…I’ll be delighting in the adventures of Sancho Panza and his “Friendly Burro”

What was patched out is the ability for the mutants to reach your hometown after 500 (or 400) days, which would spell game over. The gradual invasion was never implemented except for Necropolis; you are only informed of destroyed towns by the ending slides, but don't really get to witness it.

this reminded me of an acquaintance of mine who pulled up to oneshots solely to roll contrarian characters he brought a monk to a dungeon crawl and then announced he is a pacifist only interested in smoking weed with monsters and was upset that the carefully crafted boss revenant wasn't interested

D&D is the breezy improv game about running a coffee shop with a witch in the alps and her cat, and that's why we need a game that centers on tracking HP, spells per day, X/day abilities, special points of various sorts, and of any of those run critically low everybody has to stop and take a nap

Colette... one of my favorite characters from this game 🥺🥺💛💛 #talesof #talesofsymphonia

Colette smiling with her eyes closed and brushing back her hair with her left arm. Her other arm is at her side. She is standing in front of a big wheat field and giant cloud in the sky. There is a gentle wind blowing. The left side of Colette is in shadow and the right side is in the light. The piece is very warm and yellow besides the bright blue sky.

Very old, but a friend and I have been talking about how much we miss Slayers Lina and Naga my beloveds, I need to draw you two again!! 🧡💜 #shmiart

OLLLLD fanart of Lina Inverse from the 1995 anime tv series Slayers. Big eyes, big smile, one small tooth in her grin, bright orange hair and an oldschool fantasy outfit, equipped with big golden earrings. She's holding her hand near her face with a peace sign and her other is on her hip off screen

ANCIENT Fanart of Naga the Serpent from Slayers. A busty, scantily clad lady with a smug expression, wild dark purple hair, and a pose that can only be described as the anime "oh ho ho" laugh. She has huge paldrons with spikes and a large cape
