Wings
View out of a restaurant window. Painted text in the window reads “wings” in reverse, a shadow of the text on the wall re-reverses it.

Exciting new innovation in AI annoy-o-bots! Confirmation dialogs when you immediately try to close the chat window that pops up to annoy you. #ux #webdesign

Using trumpisms, even ironically, is a way to grant the man a measure of the immortality he craves. I realize I can't control how language evolves, but at least on this site I don't have to look at it. ("Bigly" is already on this list.)

I call this "Too Many Nightcaps." Absolutely nothing is in focus in this picture, but there's something I really like about it anyway. #catsOfBluesky #photography
On the left, a tabby & white cat reclining on a couch, stretching the toes of her front paw. On the right, an Old Fashioned cocktail in a short, square glass with a cherry in it, sitting on a dark wood end table.

Male (yellow) and female (black) eastern tiger swallowtails on my butterfly bush last week. #photography #butterflies
Top-down angle on a male eastern tiger swallowtail, his wings fully extended. The wings are mostly yellow with black edges on the left, right, and bottom; the leading edge has four vertical black tiger-stripes sweeping towards the back and tapering off before they meet the black edge at the bottom of the wing.Profile of a black butterfly with iridescent blue and yellow spots on the bottom edge of the wing, "drinking" from a purple butterfly bush.

Photograph of my well-weathered local movie multiplex. This building has certainly seen better days, but the inside is comfortable enough. #photography
Shot from the side of a well-weathered movie theater, modern(ish) construction intended to cheaply mimic old art-deco theaters. Several of the lights are burned out, and the bottom bar of "E" on "Cinemas" is unlit. Vertical streaks of grime run down the side from the roof.

I took my camera, my tripod, and my recently-learned knowledge of "bulb mode" on the camera to take some fireworks photos. I was closer than I anticipated and didn't have a wide enough angle lens this time. #photography #fireworks
A cluster of fireworks in the night sky. Mostly red, with a bit of green.

Mimosa blossoms backlit by the setting sun in North Carolina. #bloomscrolling
Mimosa blossoms are clouds of thin, filament-like petals emerging from the base of the flower. These are mostly white, with pink tips. The blossoms are backlit, which makes them appear to glow; the backlighting also outlines the tree leaves, which are fern-like.

It was a little too dark for the lens I was using, but otherwise I'm pretty pleased with this shot of two mockingbirds having an argument. #photography #birds

Day Four of deliberate wildlife photography practice — I managed to get pretty close to a green heron. #photography #birds
A green heron stands on a concrete block, looking into a pond. This green heron is roughly duck-sized, with an orange bill, brown head and chest, and the plumage along his back is a dusty green color.

A rare, quiet moment with our hyperactive kitty, Cheery. #caturday
Closeup shot of a sleeping grey tabby cat in profile, back foot tucked under her chin. She's mostly grey, but has yellow / orange highlights in her fur as well.

Day one of deliberate wildlife photography practice. I sat outside in my front yard for a while and never got a picture as good as this one, which I took in the first three minutes. #photography #birds

Huh. I guess they’ve forgotten I’m grandfathered into a better price, but their promo logic hasn’t taken that into account…
Promo offer from Proton trying to encourage me to upgrade my $9/month plan to an annual plan that costs $9.99/month (if I pay annually).

I definitely recommend this strategy, it’s saved me seeing tons of repeated jokes, uncontroversial opinions, and performative engagement farming. You can probably guess what I was blocking around Christmas.

Finally got a good picture of one of the neighborhood rabbits.
A bunny sitting in short grass; the photo is taken through a forsythia in early bloom, which is out-of-focus.

I'm fed this garbage every time I look at the internet, Youtube or social media or whatever, and then I wonder why I think everything is shit all the time.
Six thumbnails from youtube videos in a 3x2 grid. "Photography is being ruined." "The musical dark ages are here." "White balance is broken." "Stop using f/8." "Don't overthink electric car charging" and "Stop fixing this wrong" ("this" being a poor photo histogram)

Took my camera and the silly holga reproduction lens out to the Huckleberry Trail in Christiansburg, VA today. A lot of the effect of the holga lens is lost, I think. I'm not using a full-size sensor so the dramatic vignetting gets cropped away.
Railroad crossing on a paved pedestrian / bike path (The Huckleberry Trail in Montgomery County, VA). On the left in the foreground is a large yellow circular sign warning of an upcoming crossing; in the middle distance you can see the two railroad crossing signs marking the rails -- these are white signs in the shape of an X; one crossbar reads "Crossing", the other (that runs underneath) says "Rail Road"

Gave the Figma Make AI a quick spin to see what it could do redesigning my weblog, then shared the results with a designer friend. She laughed and laughed.
70's-inspired design for my weblog -- that looks like a total mess; text overlapping text, too-narrow columns of text, overuse of stripes abounds.

Tried to make a pixel-art profile pic of myself in the style of the old “Kilroy was here” graffiti. I kinda like it? Maybe not enough to replace the vampire Kermit.
