Happy birthday to seminal composer Hans Zimmer, who turns 69 today! We've been fans since we first started hearing his scores in the late 80s, but it was 1991's Backdraft that cemented our love for his work. What's your favourite of his scores so far?

Rush & Sherlock Holmes - both very underrated.

“Look behind you” was always my favourite line. Albeit from 2010.

So this is the one sheet for the 1980 re-release of Gone With The Wind, suitably buffed up & linen-backed. There’s an earlier re-release from 1974 but that has some guff about ‘BIG SCREEN SPLENDOUR’ across the top which I can do without. Fewer words, marketing people! Fewer words!! #filmsky #art

The classic poster for Gone With The Wind with Clark Gable in full on manly man mode. As, er, flattered, by The Empire Strikes Back poster design team

Or a thick slice of Lonsdale. You can never have enough Lonsdale.

Here’s a difficult one to find: a double-sided one sheet for the middle chapter of the Before Trilogy, which glows warmly when backlit. The frame hides a few creases along the edge very well but sometimes the wrinkles just add to the charm of these old bits of paper. #beforetrilogy #filmsky #art

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy under the bridge in the teaser poster for Before Sunset.

Our copy of The Thing Expanded arrived yesterday and we’re already chomping our way through it. It’s great! The posters and sew-on patch were a bonus, if only because people will confuse the patch with a Canada Goose logo. I think I’ll get my certificate framed 😁. #filmsky #thethingexpanded #art

Poster 1 for The Thing Expanded Documentary - a montage of the dog-chased helicopter and a petri dish of researchers under an unearthly microscope.

My certificate of assimilation for contributing to the costs of the physical version of the documentary.

Still scratching our cat-centric side quest poster itch with this striking design for ‘The Black Cat’, now restored and linen-backed. Well, this is a cat household after all. Haven’t seen the film yet, but it’s on the shortlist 😆. #cats #filmsky #art

A restored one-sheet poster for the film ‘The Black Cat’ which features the words ‘the Black Car’ and a large stylised angry looking black cat, on account of the fact that the film is about..a black cat.

Twins - almost. Always like it when the same artist (Richard Amsel in this case) settles on a theme. Restored & linen-backed by mpag.co.uk. Nobody draws them like this anymore… #art #filmsky #agathachristie

The teaser poster for Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile. Also hand-drawn by Richard Amsel.

Points deducted for inconsistent use of ‘theater/theatre’ in the poster text but it was a great show so who am I to complain. #filmsky #theatresky #art #merrilywerollalong #toomanyhashtags

Frank Darabont was right: nobody draws anything for film posters anymore..but at least we get the odd exception. #art #filmsky #theshapeofwater

Difficult to find but much to appreciate in this alternative to the lamp post 1 sheet for La La Land. Choice of posters this time was influenced by the fact we’re on a bit of a Ryan Gosling roll post-Project Hail Mary… watched The Nice Guys last night 🤣. #art #filmsky #lalaland #dontsayandstuff

The new wave version of the poster for La La Land. I’d describe it but that’d give away a plot point. There’s a door. Let’s leave it at that.

Before and after restoration & linen-backing of the classic Raiders one-sheet. #art #filmsky #drjones

Restored poster - brighter, cleaner and linen-backed to preserve it.

TheMoviePoster @thrud.bsky.social · 26/03/2026

More linen-backing! More preservation! This time a one-sheet for In The Loop with definite Saul Bass vibes. Turned up on eBay one time & never seen since. Seems to have been a limited run for North America but I’m guessing aiannucci.bsky.social would know more🤣. Anyway, we love it. #filmsky #art

The very blue one sheet poster for In The Loop, with two silhouetted US/UK political types using tin cans to listen to each other, but the string is all tangled up! How unrealistic!

030

TheMoviePoster @thrud.bsky.social · 16/03/2026

How is this not more widely available!?Picked up for £10 on eBay, this has DVD & blu ray versions of ‘Night of the Demon’ & also a 141 page BOOK! Wipes the floor with most other collector’s editions! Eureka BFI & Criterion - pull your socks up 🤣! #physicalmedia #nightofthedemon #itscoming

Linen-backed mayhem this week. First up, and thanks to the magic of mpag.co.uk, here is the now restored & preserved classic John Alvin take on Blade Runner. Having only ever seen this online, it’s amazing how much it pops ‘in the flesh’. Awesome restoration work. #filmsky #art

The classic one sheet for Blade Runner, restored and linen-backed by mpag.co.uk. Harrison Ford never looked cooler. Or sweatier.

Grim but true: As a teenager my best friend and I used to buy comic books from a small shop in the north of England. We used to chat with the owner, Ron. Ron was later discovered to be a child kidnapper and killer, who had escaped detection while an innocent man went to prison for decades.

Note to 70s/80s cartoon & TV folks from me age 7-12: NONE of your ****ing ‘from the kids’ pov’ characters worked. Not Godzooky, not Wily Kit/Kat on Thundercats, not 7ZARK7 on Battle of the Planets. We *all* hated them. HATED. HATED. HATED. We wanted the good stuff & you diluted it every time.

John Alvin was a huge talent and many of us probably grew up not knowing who this man was and what his work would mean to us later in life. John created some of the most recognisable movie posters from our childhoods and we remember him today on the anniversary of his passing, 18 years ago today.

The Precioussss… Coming all the way from the long-since torn down Twin City Theatre in North Palm Beach to Central London, I have finally got my hands on the Richard Amsel classic one sheet. Restoration & linen-backing is now underway. Indiana Jones will return in..a frame. #filmsky #art #indy

The Richard Amsel classic poster for Raiders of the Lost Ark. Indy with his bullwhip front and centre. A classic.

Bonus points for making insurance interesting. Edward G Robinson steals every scene he’s in, although I’m not sure why the company was writing policies offering 200% payouts in certain circs if it didn’t want to honour them, but I don’t think I’m supposed to concern myself with that.

Not a poster, but an iconic image all the same and in LG big-o-vision it’s as good as a poster 😁. Excellent 4k transfer too. #space1999 #physicalmedia

Agreed! Am about halfway in but little things like DSV2 powering up in ‘Redemption’ really make it the business. Somehow the wafer thin differences between Blake & Travis (who seems less geezer in HD) are more noticeable with Avon and Servalan despairing of both. #avonsgadgetworks

By a sad coincidence I am on my way home with a newly-delivered Drew Struzan classic one sheet which is going up on permanent display at home. It’s arrived weeks later than expected but now will be a bit of a memorial that is tied to his passing. RIP. #drewstruzan #filmsky #art
