Macro photo of the underside a European paper wasp clinging to the outside of my dining room window in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, on August 18, 2024. Cropped. Applied Samsung Galaxy's "Vivid Film" filter.

Picture shows translucent, pumpkin-orange antennae that taper to opaque gray as they reach their connecting point- the center of a black uni-brow-like line above big, angled, almondine eyes. These large compound eyes plus the mouth, throat, and what look like nostrils (actually simple eyes, I think), are black. Midsection is also black, narrowing as it approaches its final, ovoid, black-and-yellow-striped part. It's front legs are bright orange and appear to be composed of 7 segments, each. Each front leg's segment farthest from the body is white and has tiny white hook-like structures on the end. Mid- and back legs are black in segments closest to the body and switch to yellow-orange. One wing extends from either side of the body, displaying yellow-orange near the body and shifting to charcoal gray by the wingtips.

Macro of an ambush bug perched on a rounded cluster of small white Mexican clover flowers. The insect is positioned at the top right, facing toward its right, showcasing a heavily textured, jagged black and yellow exoskeleton with prominent ridges on its thorax. Its pale yellow legs grip the tiny blossoms. Extending out to its left, a vibrant green leaf holds an organized, geometric raft of small, oblong, cream-colored eggs arranged in neat rows. The entire scene is set against a smooth, warm bokeh background of sunlit yellow-green tones.

Macro photo of what I believe is a juvenile bold jumping spider (phidippus audax) resting on a pale blue metal patio chair. In the background we can see lines of the mesh metal seat and red-brown brickwork showing through. The spider's abdomen is a warm, chestnut brown bordered by a cream stripe near the head. Five stripy legs are visible. All feature cream, coffee, and almost-black brown sections. A medium brown pedipalp is on each side of the mouth. The pedipaps have long cream hairs. (More info about pedipalps is here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pedipalp.) A strip of cream-colored hairs runs in a gentle upside-down-smile curve under the medial eyes. Beneath the furry curve, two yellow-green chelicerae (mouth jaws). It has two glittering black/dark brown eyes in the center of its head and a smaller eye at the upper, outer edge of each central orb. Along the top of the spider's head is a line of sticky-outy dark hairs, with two thin, dense clumps near the eyes.

Forgotten River Path Old Course Saco River Lovell, Maine 2026 #ClassicMono #ECK #Photography #Mono #LandscapePhotography #River #Trees #Maine #ThreeWordGenre
Mono image of still water with trees and their reflections, looking from a shady area into sun on the trees.
The Saco River runs from Saco Lake in Crawford Notch in the White Mountains in New Hampshire, through Maine, to the Atlantic at Saco Bay.
In the early 1800's, a 6 mile long canal was dug that shortened the river, bypassing many twists and turns. The canal made it easier for farmers to transport goods to markets.
The Old Course Saco River is the 21.9 remnant waterway that twists through Fryeburg and Lovell. The upriver entrance is largely silted over, but there is still some water that runs through, providing recreation like fishing and boating.
