In our programme for next Saturday is Marcel Dupre’s Laudate & we’ve learned that one of his close friends was Francis Guillaume Ormond, Truro organist 1929-70. Dupre visited him here & must have played the Cathedral organ. You too can hear this instrument! minack.com/book/?instan...

We look forward to working with Abbey Brass in our next concert. Formed in 1983, they are old friends and fellow performers with us and with our sister choir the St Mary’s Singers. Abbey Brass combines West Country players with others from elsewhere. See: abbeybrass.wordpress.com/abbey-brass-2/

So lovely to see our former conductor, David Briggs, at rehearsal this evening. He’s revisiting old haunts, as it were, having accompanied the silent film The Phantom of the Opera on the Truro Cathedral organ last Saturday. Thanks for coming to see us, David!

We've had a lovely compliment from John Nettles, distinguished stage & screen actor. He attended our last concert and has emailed us to say: "It was deeply moving, musically entrancing and altogether a thing of surpassing beauty." Meur ras, thanks John. Do come again! (published with permission).

Our rehearsal is now discussing treacle as part of a Cornish winter drink. With gin, apparently. I’m not clear how this relates to Rutter’s Psalm 150… which is what we are rehearsing. All part of Kernow’s rich culture!

We had a successful rehearsal last night in the presence of composer Paul Drayton. He was generous with praise about our singing of his Passion according to Mark the Evangelist and also gave some tips. We have to be much more venomous in the trial scene! 🧵1/5

Sad news of the death of Robert Rice, whom we looked forward to hearing in our forthcoming performance of Drayton’s St Mark Passion. He sang with us in the world premiere in 2015. We extend our sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues. RIP Berty.

Our final rehearsal of 2025 this evening, in which we’ve enjoyed singing carols just for fun. Our conductor was appropriately be-tinselled and the Christmas tree of Archbishop Benson school suitably festive!

Three Spires Singers @threespiressing.bsky.social · 06/12/2025

If Christmas isn't Christmas for you without Messiah, it's not in our music programme this year but our friends at Truro Choral Society are singing it next Saturday. Some of our members belong to both choirs, and some of us will also be in the audience. We hope to see you there.

010

Three Spires Singers @threespiressing.bsky.social · 06/12/2025

Thanks to everyone who supported the St Petrocs carol service last night, and sympathies who could not make it because of flooded roads. It was good to see you there.

We are looking forward to singing for St Petrocs on 5th December. Our set will include the St Day Carol, one of Cornwall's own carols, in John Rutter's lovely arrangement of it. Do come and support this event if you are free.

Three Spires Singers @threespiressing.bsky.social · 25/11/2025

We're honoured to be asked to contribute to the St Petrocs carol service this year. Details on the attached poster. Do come along to hear us and support this worthy cause if you are in Truro on 5th December.

Three Spires Singers @threespiressing.bsky.social · 24/11/2025

Most choirs are gearing up to Welcome Yule but it’s not our turn for Messiah this year so tonight we’re welcoming St Mark’s Passion! We gave the first performance in Truro in 2015 and look forward to singing it again for Passiontide next year. But we still have plans for carols before Christmas…

020

Three Spires Singers @threespiressing.bsky.social · 23/11/2025

Warm thanks to our appreciative audience yesterday and our impressive soloists, and it’s particularly cheering that we welcomed so many under 26s. You are our future audience, and perhaps future singers too!

Wishing all musicians & music-lovers Gool Cecilia Lowen: happy St Cecilia’s Day! We’re celebrating it by singing Brahms, with soloists Florian Störtz and Francesca Chiejina & accompanied by our good friends the Three Spires Orchestra. Truro Cathedral, 7.30 tonight, tickets on the door if needed.

Three Spires Singers @threespiressing.bsky.social · 21/11/2025

Francesca to the rescue! Sadly our soprano for tomorrow is unwell: Francesca Chiejina has stepped in to sing Brahms' Requiem with us instead. She has an AMAZING biography but this looks like Cornwall’s first chance to hear her. We’re very grateful and look forward to working with her.
