Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 10/01/2025Our executive director announcing the Textile Sustainability Game Jam for 2025. We would use some of the games to promote textile sustainability at events and we definitely would promote any of those games heavily. 010
Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 10/01/2025Give your local #nonprofits some love. If you’re able to buy them something on their wishlist or office supplies, cleaning supplies, etc. you will really be making a difference. This folding dump table is $250 and helps us so much with distribution or Freejects. We were just donated two. 000

Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 12/12/2024This is a shame. We are hoping soon to be working with a textile to textile recycler. But it’s challenging because we have to sort by fiber content and we don’t have the equipment. 011

Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 01/12/2024Thread Up Oxford is a very unique idea - we want to #REDUCE new textile consumption through outreach and education, encourage #REUSE of secondhand textiles, and facilitate #RECYCLING of everything that can’t be reused in some way. Please join us in a new lifestyle of #textilesustainability ! 000
Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 01/12/2024#Freejects are an important way we redistribute textile material back out into the community. Hundreds of pounds a month of textile items with flaws/stains/holes that are still usable in some way are outside our donation center whenever we are open for anyone in the community to grab for any reason. 000

Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 26/11/2024T ariffs are one reason to shift your buying to secondhand rather than new - but buying secondhand should have been the model all along. From a #textilesustainability focus - The fast fashion industry accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions due to production and delivery systems. 000
Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 26/11/2024Tariffs are a whole other ball of wax we haven’t thought of as far as the effects on new vs secondhand consumption. It’s important to understand the entire picture in order to convince the public to buy secondhand. 011

Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 24/11/2024Really great article going over the #Ghana #FastFashion disaster we’ve created with our over-consumption of new textiles. Brings it up to 2024 as previous things I’ve shared are from earlier. 000

Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 24/11/2024Thread Up Oxford is a 501c3 non-profit in SW Ohio (USA) with the mission to eliminate textile waste in our area through a combination of education and outreach, redistribution, and facilitating recycling if items are not salvageable. #zerowaste #circulareconomy #textilesustainability #fastfashion 000
Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 23/11/2024Because of how we currently do things due to low resources, we don’t know the metrics on how much leaves those tables each week. And we don’t know if what’s taken will end up in the trash or donated to a place that won’t deal with it sustainably. But at least it’s one less step away from the trash. 000
Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 23/11/2024One critical part of our #circulareconomy #textileconservation #zerowaste mission is to keep everything out of the landfill and to keep things from going overseas, like to #ghana, to mess with their environment and native clothing and textile industries. Giving away “Freejects” is one way we do so. 101

Thread Up Oxford @threadupoxford.bsky.social · 20/11/2024It’s true. Textile sustainability and solving the problems of fast fashion is really complex. We’ve often been brought up to believe that our clothes must be washed often to prevent…infection? Every piece of the laundering process is not great for the environment. And it degrades the fabric. 162
