Lanterns had that trope/theme in most of Tom King’s stuff I’ve read where you’re meant to feel sorry for the soldier-like character for committing atrocities but ignoring or dehumanizing the victims of said atrocities.

I’m not saying we should openly accept ai or any technology no matter where is comes from. But we need to recognize it as a systemic problem and not the fault of any individual tools or technologies created under said system

The problem is the world is still mainly under a capitalist mode of production where a few benefit from the stolen ideas of others.

All of China’s ai is open source, free to use and benefit everyone. Once we move to a socialist mode of production any creation or invention will be free to benefit all of society.

So that isn’t the nature of the tool. That’s just the nature of capitalism and how the US will use any technology for profit over any actual productive use value.

China and Cuba have been integrating ai into healthcare systems, transportation, agriculture, and repetitive and heavy manufacturing to help their societies and make life easier. They also heavily regulate it to prevent it being used for theft and manipulation.

Not sure if I posted this album cover art commission I did here yet. I made it inspired by old side scrolling beat-em up games like Final Fight and Streets of Rage.

There are still some consequences and downsides and it’s nowhere near perfect but they have a drastically different and more regulated approach to this new technology than the US does. They are also not communist nor a fully socialist society yet so those improvements could also be built towards.

LLMs are a base building block to more advanced AI. China has already used AI to improve infrastructure, transportation, and medical care. They also have some partly and fully automated manufacturing.

In the US the AI bubble has become so ridiculously inflated with nothing to show for it that it will definitely pop and crash our economy in the next year or so.

From what I’ve seen China is the only country making use of ai as a productive tool but mainly because their system isn’t restricted to relying on speculative profit.

Justin McElroy @thoughtographic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
LLMs are just a building block to other AI technologies. Granted the way US uses it is destructive and used for profit over actual human need and societal value.

People want fully automated luxury communism and that requires regulated AI (LLMs). Not to make shitty art or draft emails for lazy thinkers but to automate the parts of society to make peoples lives easier.

Justin McElroy @thoughtographic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
AI (or LLMs as what they actually are) don’t have to be used for generating emails and art. They can be used to automate parts of society to make peoples life easier. Under a socialist/communist society it won’t be used for profit but as a tool to better people’s lives.

Justin McElroy @thoughtographic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
We can look at how China uses LLMs. (Or even how they implement police is drastically different)

Justin McElroy @thoughtographic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
If there was a misunderstanding on my part then I apologize but I find those two issues as unrelated. Ones an institutional system and the other is a technology/tool.

Justin McElroy @thoughtographic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
While I agree that police are irredeemable ( I think under a socialist communist system they would be something so different they may as well not even be considered “police”) LLMs actually could serve in making life easier if their main purpose wasn’t drafting emails or generating art.

Justin McElroy @thoughtographic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
You keep saying defund the police like that means anything. Who is going to defund the police? Who is going to regulate AI?
100
Justin McElroy @thoughtographic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
They will stay intact until capitalism is dismantled. You can’t fix problems without fixing the root cause of those problems. You’re not going to get rid of AI or reform the police under the capitalist ruling class.

Justin McElroy @thoughtographic.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Sure, under a different system having a group trained for public safety and rehabilitation would be essential but I would never call or trust the police under our current system.

Police under capitalism exist to protect property over people. Sure something like police will exist in a socialist country but it will be for an entirely different purpose. Here’s an interesting video about the history of police from a Marxist perspective if interested youtu.be/IaOP-9Unt8g?...

It’s a structural issue and changing the structure of society is what the whole of communist theory is about. It will be much more complicated and intricate than a snap of the fingers but a structural crisis will lead to windows into changing our society and hopefully for the better.

I don’t think the real problem is AI, but capitalism. All technology will be used to exploit people and make them docile, vapid and complacent.
